Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will crown a new light heavyweight champion when former 205-pound titleholder Glover Teixeira collides with power-punching division bruiser Jamahal Hill atop the UFC 283 pay-per-view (PPV) event, with the winner expected to keep the peace until former champion, Jiri Prochazka, returns from shoulder surgery. In addition, the promotion will look to close the book on reigning flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo and current interim titleholder Brandon Moreno after their fourth and final chapter. Welterweight veterans Gilbert Burns and Neil Magny will also throw hands at UFC 283 for the right to stay alive in the 170-pound title chase, not long after Paul Craig and Johnny Walker open the PPV main card show with their light heavyweight banger. And let’s not overlook the important 125-pound showdown between women’s flyweight contenders Lauren Murphy and Jessica Andrade!

UFC 283’s five-fight PPV main card is set to pop off TONIGHT (Sat., Jan. 21, 2023) at 10 p.m. ET from inside Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, and we’re going to bring you LIVE results and real-time play-by-play updates below, starting with the light heavyweight collision between Paul Craig and Johnny Walker. 205 lbs.: Glover Teixeira vs. Jamahal Hill for vacant Light Heavyweight title

Round 1: Immediate single-leg attempt from Teixeira, who transitions to a body lock. Nice knees by Hill before separating. Teixeira tries a reactive level change. Low kick from Hill a minute in, denies another shot. Hill tossing out jabs, good low kicks. Teixeira goes low-high with punches. He tries another single-leg, denied, eats a series of hard body kicks. Fast lead right by Hill and another easily defended takedown two minutes in. Short hook lands for Teixeira, who eats a four-piece. Hill starting to put his punches together. Teixeira lead right, eats body kicks in return. Two minutes to go.

Teixeira to the body. Big flurry on the fence. Hill answers a level change with an uppercut, then takes a finger in the eye. Good jabs on the return, then more nice takedown defense. They trade low kicks with a minute to go. Three-piece from Hill. Counter right met by a left from Teixeira, and Hill puts together more good shots before the bell. 10-9 Hill.

Round 2: Hill appears to have found his rhythm. Both land low kicks, Hill the more numerous. This time it’s Teixeira who takes a finger in the eye. Low kick exchange when they resume. One minute in. Hill goes high, then again and he has Teixeira hurt. Hill teeing off on the fence, lands some huge uppercuts. Elbow and knee from Hill after stopping another takedown. Teixeira comes back with his patented 2-3 and now he’s on the attack. Two minutes in. Another head kick from Hill. Nice body kick. Big right hands from Hill, but Teixeira finally manages to take him down with a double-leg. Full mount, nearly gets the back, settles in guard with two minutes to go.

Half guard for Teixeira. Briefly considers an arm triangle. Hill working his way out, makes it to his feet. Superman punch attempt with a minute to go. Another head kick attempt, then a nasty straight right. Teixeira whiffs on a left hook and eats a body kick. Big left hook lands for him. Hill comes back with a counter right. 10-9 Hill.

Round 3: Glover gets in deep on an early double-leg. Impressive hips by Hill to reverse on the fence and separate. Sharp jabs from Hill. One minute in. Lead hook from Teixeira. Hill keeping his distance and he’s hurt Teixeira with another head kick. Teixeira wobbles to the mat and Hill tries to polish him off. Solid punches. Big elbow. Two minutes in. Teixeira still has life in him but Hill is doing damage. Diving elbow. Teixeira tries to sit up into a takedown, can’t get it. Hill elects to let him up. Teixeira shoots, rebuffed with two minutes to go.

Body kick, straight right, and jab land for Hill. Jab exchange. Big right hands from Hill. Head kick attempt. 2-3 from Teixeira with a minute to go. 2-3 lands for him. He’s still marching forward, bless him. Nice combination. Sneaky hook from Hill, who eats a body shot in return. Big combo from Hill, who ends the round with a knee and right cross. 10-8 Hill.

Round 4: Teixeira has a cut so deep you can almost see his skull, but he comes out anyway. Body kicks from Hill. Straight left, clean jabs. Big knee by Hill. Teixeira grabs double underhooks in return, loses the grip a minute in. Lead right lands for him. Hill fires another head kick, lands a clean 1-2. Nasty combos from Hill. Solid right hand by Teixeira. Two minutes in. Loaded-up right cross appears to sting Teixeira, who cracks him with a 2-3 in return. Hill tries another head kick. There’s blood getting in Teixeira’s eye. Two minutes to go.

High-low combo by Teixeira. Good body shot, glancing overhand right. More combinations. Hill backs him off with a straight and goes to work on the fence. Good knee to the body, right hooks. Teixeira throwing back. One minute to go. Hill’s tearing into him on the fence. They can stop this. Knees to the body from Hill, more punches. They separate with 20 seconds to go. Teixeira lands a body shot, eats knees and a final barrage. 10-8 Hill.

Round 5: Teixeira is still somehow fired up to go. Hill goes right back to potshotting. Teixeira shoots and hits an outside trip to land on top in half guard. Side control a minute in. Short elbows. Hill regains half guard. Teixeira passes to mount. Hill slips out the backdoor two minutes in and settles on top in half guard. Nice elbow by Hill. Two minutes to go.

Hill staying heavy, landing periodic elbows. Now he passes to side control. Teixeira spins and Hill lets him to his feet with a minute to go. Teixeira tries a combo, eats a body kick. Stiff jab from Hill, who’s staying cautious. Teixeira waving him in, lands a body shot. 10-9 Hill.

Final result: Hill def. Teixeira by unanimous decision


125 lbs.: UFC Flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo vs. interim Flyweight champion Brandon Moreno

Round 1: Figueiredo takes the initiative, only to be taken down into half guard while looking for a guillotine. Moreno seems content to wait it out. One minute in. It’s Figueiredo who breaks the stalemate, elevating Moreno and scrambling to his feet. Low kick from Moreno, then an overhand right a bit later. Front kick from Figueiredo. Two minutes in. Great counter overhand lands flush for Moreno after a body kick falls short. Figueiredo hops in with a 2-1, then a front kick with two minutes to go.

Moreno combo met by a body shot. He shoots, misses an elbow on the exit. Good low kick lands for Figueiredo, who shoots off a Moreno low kick and eats an elbow on the break. Low-high 3-2 by Moreno with a minute to go. Blast double puts Moreno on top. Figueiredo goes from omoplata to leglock and Moreno falls back to 50/50. Decent crank from Figueiredo, but nothing doing. 10-9 Moreno.

Round 2: Moreno looking like the much sharper fighter early on. Early combination, but Figueiredo catches a kick and takes him down into guard. Solid right hand. Moreno gets a bit of space and scrambles up. One minute in. Figueiredo staying on the front foot. Clubbing right. He defends a takedown right after. Low kick from Moreno. Two minutes in. Moreno 1-1-2 met by a counter right. Great takedown by Moreno and Figueiredo immediately reverses it. Moreno kicks him away and stands, only for Figueiredo to jump on a guillotine. Two minutes to go.

Moreno manages to weather it and settle on top in guard. Head pressure. One minute to go. Ref wants more action. Moreno goes for a nice late elbow. Hard elbow from Figueiredo off his back. Close round. 10-9 Figueiredo?

Round 3: Figueiredo continuing to advance. Overhand right by Moreno, low kick behind it. They collide in the center, neither makes anything of it a minute in. Moreno whiffs bad on a two-piece. Figueiredo fires a body kick and Moreno blasts him with a counter left that has Figueiredo claiming a poke. Ref tells them to fight on and Moreno capitalizes with a takedown into guard. Figueiredo’s cut either on his right eyelid or right below. Moreno postures up with some good punches, absorbing an upkick. Two minutes to go.

Looks like Moreno’s thumb knuckle did the damage. His hand was closed, so it’s legal. Jesus, that eye is borked; it doesn’t look like he can open it. The doctor confirms it and this one’s over.

Final result: Moreno def. Figueiredo by TKO (doctor stoppage)


170 lbs.: Gilbert Burns vs. Neil Magny

Round 1: Slow start; not terribly unexpected. Body kick from Burns. One minute in. Neither man committing to anything yet. Double jab from Burns, then a powerful lead right into a body lock takedown. On top in half guard two minutes in. Magny showing some nice defense, but Burns makes it to side control. Using a cradle to maintain position. He takes the opposite side with two minutes to go.

Impressive effort from Burns to take mount. One minute to go. As soon as Magny’s arm extends, Burns bears down on an arm triangle, and despite the fence being in his way, the tap comes shortly after.

Final result: Burns def. Magny by submission (arm triangle choke)


125 lbs.: Jessica Andrade vs. Lauren Murphy

Round 1: Low kicks from Andrade to start. Really racking ‘em up in a hurry. She tries to blitz, falls short. One minute in. Flying front kick attempt. Murphy seemingly just looking to jab as Andrade tears up her lead leg. Counter two-piece lands for Andrade when Murphy tries to attack. More low kicks and a hard left hook as they trade hands. Murphy shoots, rebuffed, eats punches. Murphy’s landing the jab but it’s not deterring Andrade. Andrade lands a left hook as she blitzes, eats a combo two minutes in. Nice 1-2 by Murphy. Low kick to left hook by Andrade. Big blitz lands for her after Murphy tries to put some punches together. Murphy shoots, drags her down, can’t keep her there with two minutes to go.

Another heavy low kick from Andrade, who’s showing off some remarkably good game planning. Heavy punches on the fence. Two counter rights catch Murphy coming in. Another big rush. Murphy times a low kick for a takedown attempt, can’t get it. Andrade blasts her with combinations with a minute to go. Low kick to 3-2. More low kicks. Hard right hand. Murphy shoots and spins to the rear waist lock, but eats a back fist for her trouble. 10-8 Andrade.

Round 2: Low kick to two-piece from Andrade, who continues to pressure despite Murphy’s best attempts at jabbing. Easy takedown defense and an uppercut for her trouble. Low-high right hand by Andrade. Good 1-2s from Murphy in return a minute in. Andrade comes back with clubbing hooks and denies a double-leg. This is genuinely the best Andrade has ever looked. More low kicks. Murphy shoots, denied. 1-2-3-2 by Andrade and they club each other inside. Two minutes in. Spinning back fist attempt. Big hook kicks off a lengthy combo from Andrade, who denies another shot and slams home a right hand on the break. Another failed shot from Murphy. Andrade tries a jumping front kick with a minute to go.

Another Andrade leg kick hits home. Quick flurry capped by a right hand. Murphy lands a low kick and misses a spinning back fist behind it. She catches a kick and shoots, but gets snapped down by a front headlock. One minute to go. Back to the feet. Low-high combo by Andrade, then more clean right hands. Murphy shoots under a left hook, denied. Andrade ends the round with what looks like a double-digit flurry of power shots. 10-9 Andrade.

Round 3: Andrade is just way, way too much for Murphy. Too fast, too aggressive, too powerful, too good a wrestler. One minute in. Andrade considers a pair of spins. Murphy overhand right. Flurry from Andrade, Murphy counter right, jab exchange. Another failed shot from Murphy and Andrade hauls her to the fence. Takedown into half guard two minutes in. Murphy looking for a kimura. Andrade pops her arm out and lands a pair of punches as Murphy stands. Solid right from Murphy, flurry comes back at her. Andrade blitzing to excellent effect, Murphy answering with counters. Two minutes to go.

Counter body shot from Andrade, then a right hook upstairs. More combos against the fence. Murphy’s not doing as badly this round but she’s still getting mollywhopped. Heavy combos by Andrade and now she’s brutalizing her again. They should stop this. One minute to go. Counter left hook, uppercut. Another clean combination. Andrade pouring on the hurt until the bell. 10-8 Andrade.

Final result: Andrade def. Murphy by unanimous decision


205 lbs.: Paul Craig vs. Johnny Walker

Round 1: Very tentative start. Hard low kick from Walker. One minute in. Craig tosses out his own leg kicks. Awkward jab exchange. Outside and inside low kicks by Walker. Two minutes in. Walker fires a front kick that Craig catches, but before Craig can get anything going, Walker starts brutalizing him with punches and backfists on one leg. These are ridiculously heavy, and one of them sends Craig crashing to the mat. Walker swats him with standing hammerfists as Craig clings to his leg for dear life, and the barrage is enough to send the ref into action.

Final result: Walker def. Craig by TKO (punches)
