Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) makes its return to the FOX Sports 1 airwaves this Saturday night (Oct. 27, 2018) with the UFC Fight Night 138 mixed martial arts (MMA) event inside Moncton Events Centre in New Brunswick, Canada, which includes additional preliminary bouts airing on UFC Fight Pass. Headlining the network-televised fight card is the light heavyweight showdown pitting ex-division No. 1 contender, Volkan “No Time” Oezdemir, opposite dangerous 205-pound slugger Anthony “Lionheart” Smith. In the featherweight co-main event, 145-pound “Hammer” Artem Lobov tries to prove he’s more than just Conor McGregor’s waterboy by trading leather with former lightweight striker (and late replacement) Michael “The Menace” Johnson. In addition, Misha Cirkunov tries to punch his way back into the win column by turning away light heavyweight wrestler Patrick “Durkin’” Cummins, while Gian Villante and Ed “Short Fuse” Herman collide at 205 pounds.

Round 1: Gouti on the front foot early, eats a hard combination. Haqparast claims he got poked in the eye, doesn’t take long to recover. Haqparast claims Gouti is sticking his fingers one. One minute in. Haqparast connects with a good left hand. Counter left. Gouti still pressing forward. 2-3 from Haqparast. Another hard combination. Big left hand. Gouti’s still throwing with him two minutes in. Haqparast slips. Oblique kick from Gouti. HUGE overhand left flattens Gouti! The Frenchman scrambles back to his feet, avoiding the heavy fire with less than two minutes to go.

More combinations from Haqparast. Gouti digs a right to the body. Another good body shot. One minute to go. Haqparast fires a combo, blocked. Gouti finding a home for that right downstairs. Good pressure from Gouti, who blocks a combo. 10-9 Haqparast.

Round 2: Gouti continues to pressure. Right hook connects for him. Haqparast looking to throw back. Both land to the body. Hard combo by Haqparast off the back foot. 145 lbs.: Calvin Kattar vs. Chris Fishgold

Round 1: Fishgold pressuring early, throwing low kicks. He shoots in for a double-leg and gets Kattar to the mat. Fishgold grabs a guillotine on the way up, loses it, and blasts Kattar with an overhand right. Kattar keeps his guard high as he retreats. Fishgold shoots in once again a minute in. Kattar defends and separates. Fishgold counters a jab with haymakers. Good uppercut through the guard. Two minutes in. Another overhand right from Fishgold. Kattar tries a flying knee and eats a right hand. Jab from Kattar. Fishgold sporting a cut under his left eye. Two minutes to go.

Another sharp jab. Fishgold shoots, stuffed. Hard right hand from Fishgold in combiantion. Kattar fires a counter uppercut. Low kick by Fishgold. 1-2 and down goes Fishgold! Kattar follows him down into guard and drops hammerfists until the ref steps in.

135 lbs.: Sarah Moras vs. Talita Bernardo

Round 1: Bernardo lands a hard left hook in the center. Nice right cross from Moras soon after. Nasty 2-1 counter a minute in. Bernardo with a low kick and jab. Bernardo with a good body kick and she looks to press the advantage. Two minutes in. 1-2 from Moras splits the guard. Bernardo get sin deep on a takedown, but can’t keep hold of Moras. Moras comes back with a counter overhand right. Low kick to head kick from Bernardo and she’s unloading with punches. Moras puts her on the fence with two minutes to go.

Bernardo tries an outside trip, lands a knee and reverses position on the fence. There’s the outside trip, though Moras manages to get to guard and start throwing elbows off of her back. Bernardo passes to side control. Moras gets half guard. Bernardo goes for a guillotine at the bell. 10-9 Bernardo.

Round 2: More tentative start to this round. Brief clinch. One minute in. 1-2 from Moras. Body kick from Bernardo. Counter right connects. They trade rights inside. Counter right from Moras. 1-2 from Bernardo, head kick blocked, another one nearly connects. Bernardo finding increasing success on the feet. They tie up and Bernardo hits that same trip into side control. Looking for mount with two minutes to go.

Moras manages to get to half guard. Pressure from Bernardo. Moras keeping hold of that leg, but not doing much to stand or regain guard. One minute to go. Bernardo briefly looks for kesa gatame, then starts dropping right hands. Side control, nearly takes the back. She looks for an americana at the bell. 10-9 Bernardo.

Round 3: Bernardo lands a right hand, then gets double-legged to the ground. Moras on top in half guard. Bernardo quickly sweeps her way into top position and avoids a potential kimura attempt. One minute in. Moras fires elbows off of her back, but surrenders side control. north-south. Moras constantly using her legs to try and improve position, but unable to. Two minutes in. Moras threatens to take the back but can’t do so. Bernardo clamps down on a kimura but swiftly loses it. Two minutes to go.

Moras regains half guard. Hammerfists from Bernardo. Moras kicks her away and gets to her feet, throwing hard. Moras counters that same trip into top position and takes the back. Bernardo slips out and gets back on top, looking for side control. Bernardo lets her up. Moras marches after her, connects with a few good punches. 10-9 Bernardo.

Final result: Bernardo def. Moras by unanimous decision


155 lbs.: Te Edwards vs. Don Madge

Round 1: Both men meet in the center and start slugging. It’s Madge who draws first blood, dropping Edwards with a straight left. Edwards shoots in response and takes him down into guard. One minute in. Madge trying to bring his legs up. There’s the armbar and Edwards fights like a madman to get free, getting his arm free despite some vicious torque. Madge looking for an omoplata, not there. Edwards stands over Madge, eats an upkick. Madge kicks at his knee. Edwards re-enters his guard with two minutes to go.

Madge working his legs back up for a triangle attempt. Edwards postures free and stands. One minute to go. Edwards lets Madge up. Nice knee by Madge and it’s back to throwing heat. Hard body knee in the clinch. 10-9 Madge.

Round 2: Madge right back on the attack, clips Edwards with a head kick. Edwards stumbles along the cage, where he’s met by another shin to the dome. The ref rushes in as Edwards tries to hold on.

Final result: Madge def. Edwards by KO (head kick)


265 lbs.: Arjan Bhullar vs. Marcelo Golm

Round 1: Low kick from Golm. 1-2 buzzes Bhullar. Another low kick. Bhullar trying to wade into the clinch without success. One minute in. Another leg kick from Golm. Bhullar fires a knee in the clinch, then gets floored by another leg kick. Golm doesn’t pursue. Two minutes in. Golm continuing to punish the leg, lands a lead right. Body shot from the Brazilian, then another left hook as Bhullar throws an overhand right. Bhullar with a right hook and a lead uppercut. Two minutes to go.

Golm fires another low kick and Bhullar presses him against the fence. They separate. Bhullar counters a front kick with a chopping right. Trading punches inside, Bhullar exits with an uppercut. Short uppercut by Golm and Bhullar ties up. Left hook on the break by Bhullar. 10-9 Golm.

Round 2: Golm connects with his jab. Bhullar with a 1-2 around the guard. Low kick from Golm, knee to the body and a pair of right hands that back Bhullar up. Golm digs a body knee in the clinch. One minute in. Bhullar reverses on the fence. He changes levels, can’t get Golm to the mat and they separate. Brief clinch. Golm tries a jumping knee and clips Bhullar with a left hook two minutes in. Golm landing jabs. Bhullar takes Golm to the fence. Two minutes to go.

Back to the center. Bhullar powers through Golm’s jab to tie up again. One minute to go. Bhullar gets double unders for a moment. Close round. I’m gonna say 10-9 Golm.

Round 3: Golm’s right foot has some ugly swelling. Bhullar fires uppercuts to clinch up against the fence. They separate. One minute in. Golm tries an uppercut and high kick. Bhullar throwing with confidence and hauls Golm to the mat for the first time. On top in guard two minutes in. Bhullar just staying heavy, chipping away. Two minutes to go.

Golm really not doing much off of his back, though he does regain guard after Bhullar passes. One minute to go. Bhullar gets back to half guard, commits more to his punches. Golm uses the space to get to his feet. Bhullar stays attached. 10-9 Bhullar.

155 lbs.: Stevie Ray vs. Jessin Ayari

Round 1: Trading low kicks to start. Ray fires a straight left. Ayari just misses with a counter cross. One minute in. More low kicks from Ray. Overhand left by Ray, counter right from Ayari. Ray cracks him with another straight in response. Again. More leg kicks. Two minutes in. Nasty counter uppercut from Ayari and a left hook behind it. 1-2 soon after. Two minutes to go.

Round 2: Ayari still looking spry despite the low kicks. Ray rushes in, lands a left hand. Low kicks continuing to pile up. One minute in. Ayari steps into the clinch, separates quickly.
