Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is set to pull the trigger on UFC Vegas 15, streaming LIVE tonight (Sat., Nov. 28, 2020) from inside the promotion’s APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. Headlining the UFC Vegas 15 fight card, which airs on both ESPN+ and ESPN2, was supposed to be a Heavyweight showdown between Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis; however, at the eleventh hour, “Razor” tested positive for COVID-19 and the bout has been postponed (details). Now, Light Heavyweight up-and-comer, Devin Clark, will look to break into the Top 15 by turning away former 205-pound title contender, Anthony Smith, in the re-worked main event scheduled for five, five-minute rounds.

UFC VEGAS 15 PLAY-BY-PLAY:

205 lbs.: Devin Clark vs. Anthony Smith

“Lionheart” Anthony Smith is 33-16, on a two fight losing streak, but because of the original main event falling out this turns out to be Smith’s seventh straight main event fight. This is Clark’s first main event in UFC, he’s 12-4, and he’s on a two fight winning streak. Blue gloves and black trunks for Clark, red gloves for Smith and silver trunks. Clark fights out of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Smith fights out of Omaha, Nebraska. The referee is Herb Dean.

Round 1: Clark runs toward Smith and he turns it into a takedown at 13 seconds right to side control. Smith drags him away from the fence to the center of the Octagon and takes the back. Clark is throwing heel kicks into Smith’s right knee. He sweeps and gets on top of Smith at 1:35 in full guard. Smith closes the guard. Clark tries and fails to pass and Smith locks up a triangle with his legs. Clark tries to pound his way free with his right arm but it’s to no avail as he’s forced to tap out at 2:34.

Final result: Anthony Smith wins via submission (triangle choke) at 2:34 of round one.


265 lbs.: Josh Parisian vs. Parker Porter

Porter is 10-6 in the blue gloves and blue trunks. Parisian is 13-3 in the red gloves and black trunks. Parisian at 6’4” and 79” has a four inch height and reach advantage. Porter fights out of West Hartford, Connecticut. Parisian fights out of Escanaba, Michigan. The referee in charge is Mark Smith.

Round 1: A tap of gloves gets us underway. Porter closes the distance throwing bombs and puts Parisian against the fence. He breaks free at 35 seconds. Porter keeps coming forward and they trade knees before Porter puts him on the cage again. Some blood is trickling from Parisian’s nose. He comes over the top with a right hand and gets a few sneaky strikes in dirty boxing style. Parisian finally makes him back up with another right and now he’s got Porter hurt. Two minutes gone. Parisian continually decks home his right hand. He loses his mouthpiece and we get a timeout. Porter closes the distance. Leg kicks. Left hand from Parisian. Porter clocks him with a right and Parisian backs up. Parisian responds with a spinning backfist. Elbow and uppercut. Porter chargers forward again and goes for a single leg. Parisian gets back up at 3:50. Parisian pushes him away and they meet in the center. Knee from Parisian. Right from Porter. Porter connects with a right. Parisian with body shots. Leg kick from Porter. Rights and lefts from Parisian. He throws Porter down and gets a few strikes off before the horn. 10-9 Parisian.

Round 2: There’s another glove tap to start R2. Parisian nearly falls throwing a kick. Porter knocks him down with a kick and goes for the neck as Parisian tries to get back up. He’s got the neck. He lets go of the choke and Parisian gets back up at 1:23. Clashing leg kicks. Overhand right. Porter lands a head kick back. He pushes Parisian to the fence. Two minutes gone. Porter backs up to let his hands go. Parisian with a knee. Porter puts Parisian on the fence and takes him down to side control. Three minutes. He moves to half guard. Porter grinds away with elbows and he’s looking for a key lock. Porter lets it go with a minute left. Hammerfists on top. Parisian tries and fails to get up. Porter pins one arm under a knee and throws lefts. Parisian gets up with 10 seconds left. They trade big shots. 10-9 Porter.

Round 3: A low blow leads to time early and both men could definitely use the extra rest. Porter eats a left to the chin as he walks Parisian down. Leg kicks from Porter. Parisian with a left to the chin. He loses his mouthpiece and draws a warning to keep it in. Porter nails the left leg with another kick and a left to the chin. Parisian with a hard right. Porter with a three piece. Parisian misses with a backfist and gets popped. Porter backs his opponent to the fence and works the jab. Front kick from Parisian. Combo from Porter. Parisian just earned a warning to fight back. Porter with multiple combos. Parisian tries another backfist. 1:40 left. Right cross for Porter. They tie up and Porter drops levels briefly. Parisian with a right cross. Porter shoves him across the cage. They clinch again. Porter shoves him back then Parisian turns him into the fence. 10-9 Porter.

Final result: The judges score it 30-26, 30-27 and 29-28 all for Parker Porter.


170 lbs.: Miguel Baeza vs. Takashi Sato

Baeza is 6’2” and Sato 5’10”. Sato has the black trunks and blue gloves, a record of 16-3, and he fights out of Tokyo, Japan. Baeza has the red trunks and gloves, a record of 9-0, and he fights out of Davie, Florida. The referee in charge of this contest is Dan Miragliotta.

Round 1: Glove tap opens the contest. Baeza circles to his right on the outside then changes directions. He’s moving back and forth as Sato tries to draw a bead. Baeza misses with an overhand right. Sato goes head and body then steps back. Body kick by Baeza. Right cross makes Sato back up. He checks a head kick coming his way. Another one at 2:02. Baeza kicks the lead right leg. Baeza keeps winging out body and head kicks. Over the top right hand. Sato goes for a body shot. Baeza clips the ear as they clinch and throws a knee to the cup. Sato drops to his knees as Miragliotta calls time and asks for a translator. Miragliotta says it wasn’t intentional but it’s a “hard warning” to Baeza all the same. The fight resumes. Body kick from Baeza. Front kick misses. Baeza lands a right hand that may have hurt Sato but misses with a follow up head kick. Sato has a cut under one eye. 30 seconds. 10-9 Baeza.

Round 2: Another glove tap as the camera zooms in to the cage. Body kick for Baeza. Baeza keeps attacking with the right hand. The cut under Sato’s right eye is leaking steadily now. Sato is trying to land the left hand. Baeza hits a 1-2 combo. Two minutes. Body kick from Baeza. Leg kick. Body shot. Sato seems to be outgunned here. Snapping body kick. Another body shot from Baeza. Baeza with another combo. Single leg at 3:35 and he’s got Sato down five seconds later. He jumps on the back with one hook in and pummels him with right hands from behind. He momentarily considers a rear naked choke, lets it go, considers an arm triangle, and his corner screams for ground and pound. He’s moving to the side with the arm triangle though and he’s got the tap at 4:28 for his first career submission.

Final result: Miguel Baeza wins via submission (arm triangle) at 4:28 of round two.


145 lbs.: Bill Algeo vs. Spike Carlyle

Gray trunks and blue gloves for Algeo, 13-5, fighting out of King of Prussia, PA. Black trunks and red gloves for Carlyle, 9-2, fighting out of Del Mar, California. Our referee for this contest is Herb Dean.

Round 1: Carlyle lands the first kick quick. He throws an overhand right that misses and Algeo clips him in return. Algeo with a kick. Carlyle circles on the outside to his left. Algeo throws a head kick that’s checked. Another leg kick from Algeo. Carlyle misses wildly with teo hooks and eats an overhand right back. Carlyle starts barking and yelling. A push kick pushes him backward. Two minutes gone. Leg kicks both ways. Spinning heel kick from Algeo. Hard combo from Algeo. Carlyle shoots in looking for a takedown and he gets it at 2:44. Carlyle tries to climb the back as he gets back up. Herb Dean calls for more work as the action stalls against the fence. Carlyle gets him down for a second at 3:38 but Algeo is right back up. Algeo tries to trip him to the ground but Carlyle counters into a bulldog choke and Algeo is in trouble. Algeo gets out of it and has the back. Algeo gets warned about illegal elbows as Carlyle goes for another takedown late. 10-9 Algeo.

Round 2: Algeo throws a head kick early. Carlyle with a leg kick. They clinch and break at 0:31. Carlyle gets a single leg but Algeo gets right back up and presses him to the cage for some knees. Algeo gets a takedown and the back at 1:37. The body triangle is tight. Algeo is fishing for the rear naked choke or an arm triangle if Carlyle turns in. He lets it go but he’s got full mount. Carlyle gives up his back again. Three minutes. Herb Dean calls for work. Algeo looses one hook but he’s driving knees into the ribs. He gets the hook back in. Carlyle tries to turn and get on top with short time but he’s getting elbowed in the head. 10-9 Algeo.

Round 3: Carlyle looks gassed at the start of this round. Algeo is advancing on him at will. He knees Carlyle but eats a counter shot in return. Algeo keeps walking him down. Front kick. Overhand right. Body kick. Left jab. Right hook. Carlyle shoots and takes the back trying to elevate Algeo. Algeo ends up on top in the scramble and throws a knee as Carlyle gets back up. They jockey for position against the fence. Carlyle pushes him away at 2:33. Head kick from Algeo. Carlyle shoots and gets the takedown at 2:52. Algeo is back up at 3:10. They break at 3:35. Algeo lands a knee as Carlyle shoots again. One minute left. Algeo lands elbows and turns Carlyle around. Algeo with the hard lefts repeatedly. Carlyle clinches up but Algeo fights it off and throws an elbow. Daps between both me at the horn. 10-9 Algeo.

Final result: Bill Algeo wins by unanimous decision of 30-27 X3.


135 lbs.: Norma Dumont vs. Ashlee Evans-Smith

Dumont is 4-1 in the blue gloves, yellow trunks and top. Evans-Smith is 6-4 in the red gloves, black trunks and top and fights out of Santa Ana, California. Dumont came in heavy at 139.5 pounds. She fights out of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The ref is Jason Herzog.

Round 1: No glove tap to start. Evans-Smith is mixing up the strikes between her kicks and hands. Dumont is trying to press forward but eats a right hand for her trouble. Evans-Smith eats a leg kick but counters with a hard right. Dumont with a spinning heel kick. She’s starting to open up with her hands a little. Right hand from Dumont. Evans-Smith moves forward and eats a counter left, then a big right hand. Evans-Smith tries to back her up with her long legs. Left jab overhand right for Dumont. Right hook for Evans-Smith. Dumont puts her on the fence and comes over the top with an elbow. Dumont lets it go and moves back to center. Evans-Smith has a cut on her nose and her face is beet red. Dumont with a takedown at 4:30. 10-9 Dumont.

Round 2: Dumont dancers back and forth in front of Evans-Smith before catching a kick and unloading with a combo. Dumont with a takedown and they scramble until Evans-Smith gets back to her feet. Dumont avoids a reversal on a takedown and ends up in side control. Dumont moves to full mount as Evans-Smith tries and fails to push off the fence with her feet to get away. Two minutes gone. Dumont is slowly trying to break the grip of Evans-Smith to posture up and do damage. Herzog stops the fight momentarily to address a wardrobe malfunction for Dumont and the bout continues. Hard left elbows but Evans-Smith gets back to her feet. Dumont with a knee to the body as she stands. 90 seconds. Straight right from Dumont. Evans-Smith’s face looks like it has been coated with paint. Dumont circles and throws a left. Evans-Smith throws a front kick. Dumont with the leg kick then a four piece combo. Body kick from Evans-Smith. 15 seconds. Jab from Dumont. Another 10-9 for Dumont.

Round 3: Dumont with a big combo 22 seconds into the round. Evans-Smith needs a dramatic knockout or submission to turn this around — that’s her only hope. Dumont just keeps teeing off on her. She shoots for a takedown that’s easily blocked. Straight left from Dumont. Two lefts and a right cross. Two kicks from Evans-Smith. Overhand right from Dumont. Leg kick from Dumont. Again. Lazy knee from Evans-Smith. Dumont turns Evans-Smith into the fence when she charges and locks the arms around her. They break at 3:49. Evans-Smith steps back after a massive combo lands home. Dumont rocks her with an uppercut and Evans-Smith goes for a takedown defensive to save herself. Dumont escapes it and throws shots to the body. Evans-Smith goes for a takedown and gets countered to Dumont being on top. 10-9 Dumont.

Final result: Norma Dumont wins by unanimous decision of 30-26 X3.


135 lbs.: Martin Day vs. Anderson dos Santos

Yellow trunks and blue gloves, 20-8, fighting out of Sao Paulo, Brazil is dos Santos. Black trunks and red gloves, 8-4, fighting out of Kailua, Hawaii is Day. The referee in charge of this contest is Herb Dean.

Round 1: Kicks both ways early. Dos Santos circles in and out and throws a leg kick. May keeps his hands up high and pops dos Santos with some shots. Dos Santos returns the favor after a missed takedown, then shoots for another. Day slips out of it. Dos Santos takes the back and elevates Day but he doesn’t go down. Two minutes gone. Day throws a reverse right elbow as dos Santos keeps working for the takedown and he finally gets it at 2:29. Left hand on top. Dos Santos moves to side control with over 90 seconds remaining. Knee to the body. Day gets him back to butterfly guard but dos Santos smashes an elbow from the top. Day scrambles and goes for a takedown of his own but dos Santos has the neck and he’s going for a guillotine. He’s got it!

Final result: Anderson dos Santos via submission (guillotine choke) at 4:35 of R1.


125 lbs.: Gina Mazany vs. Rachael Ostovich

This is Mazany’s first UFC fight at Flyweight. Ostovich sports the gray trunks and top with blue gloves, a pro record of 4-5, fighting out of Waianae, Hawaii. Mazany has the black trunks and top with red gloves (and hair), a record of 6-4, fighting out of Kansas City, Missouri. The referee in charge is Mark Smith.

Round 1: No touch up as both fighters were eager to square up — Mazany in particular. She gets hit with a body kick from Ostovich in response. Mazany rushes her into the fence at 40 seconds and trips her into a takedown. She’s got the back and the hooks in, riding a little high, but she secures a body triangle for a moment. 90 seconds gone. Ostovich scrambles and gets to her feet. Right hook from Ostovich. Right body kick from Ostovich. Mazany comes in with a straight left and a left to the body. Leg kick from Mazany. Leg kick, right hand. Ostovich takes two lefts to the jaw. Mazany shoots in looking for another takedown. Knees from behind. Ostovich breaks free at 3:49. One minute to go. Right hand from Mazany. There’s some blood trickling from Ostovich’s nose. Right hands from Ostovich. Left cross late from Mazany en route to a 10-9.

Round 2: Mazany gets busy right away and after a flurry she elevates Ostovich for the takedown 30 seconds in. Ostovich gets back up but Mazany puts her right back down. Ostovich tries and fails to secure an armbar. Mazany avoids the leg coming up around her head and moves to the North-South position. Mark Smith tells them to work as Mazany’s corner does the same. Ostovich escapes a choke and briefly takes the back before Mazany also escapes at 2:19. High kick from Ostovich is checked. Both of them swing wild but Mazany answers with an unstopped takedown right into quarter mount. Ostovich is just holding her in place but eventually Mazany moves to take the back. Ostovich gets up but gets thrown right back down. Up, down. 30 seconds. Right hands from behind. Ostovich up again with 20 seconds left. Smith warns her not to grab the fence. She turns around and they each throw haymakers. 10-9 Mazany.

Round 3: Mazany rushes in, hits two knees from behind, and Ostovich is warned again to not grab the fence — twice. Ostovich finally slips away at 1:05. Mazany pops her with two left hands and she’s on the fence again. Ostovich circles to her right and eats a 1-2 combo. She steps cautiously to her left and eats the left hook. Mazany goes for a spinning backfist and misses. She puts Ostovich on the fence again and takes her down with the double at 2:33. She quickly moves to full mount and the right elbows rain down. Ostovich is warned to fight back but she gives UP her back. Ostovich gets up at 3:19. Left cross to the face. Ostovich is hurt by a body kick, turtles up and is warned to fight back again. She gets up at 4:02. Another body kick and the fight is STOPPED.

Final result: Gina Mazany by technical knockout at 4:10 of round three.


125 lbs.: Malcolm Gordon vs. Su Mudaerji

Gordon brings a 12-4 record into this fight with black trunks and blue gloves, the same as his opponent Su Mudaerji in the red trunks and red gloves. Gordon fights out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada while Mudaerji fights out of Sichuan, China. The referee for this fight is Dan Miragliotta.

Round 1: Gordon comes forward fast looking for an upset against the -360 favorite. Mudaerji connects repeatedly with the left hand and Gordon FACE PLANTS after one more right hook to follow up. It’s over in 44 seconds!

Final result: Su Mudaerji wins by knockout at 0:44 of round one.


140 lbs.: Nate Maness vs. Luke Sanders

This is the first bout for Sanders in well over a year since knocking out Renan Barao on the “Ngannou vs. Velasquez” card. He brings a record of 13-3 to this fight along with the black trunks and red gloves. Nate Maness has a 12-1 record with blue gloves and blue trunks. The referee in charge is Jason Herzog.

Round 1: Tap of gloves and we’re underway! Sanders is confident at the center but Maness clips him with a counter right hand. Sanders keeps pawing with the right hand but has to back away after a heavy combo. Maness gets clipped himself and resets. Sanders with a leg kick. Two minutes gone. Hard calf kick from Sanders and Maness is feeling it. Sanders throws a hard left hook, clinches, breaks, and slips but gets back up quickly. Maness tries to keep him at distance with a head kick. Sanders gets clipped with a left but avoids the overhand right. Sanders throws a flurry but Maness gets a takedown and jumps on Sanders’ back. He gets right back up and uses the fence to turn himself free and get back to the middle. Sanders with a huge combo and Maness is wobbly. Elbow over the top. 20 seconds. 10-9 Sanders.

Round 2: Maness seems to have recovered to start the round but Sanders is still head hunting with the lefts. They get into a wild exchange 45 seconds in and Sanders gets hurt by a counter shot. His corner is screaming at him to let him know. Sanders fearlessly comes forward and pours it on again. Maness and Sanders clinch up and Maness breaks free at 1:40. Sanders connects with a straight left but eats a counter shot too. Maness drops him with a right and then takes him down and gets full mount. He’s got the back, he’s got the rear naked, and Sanders taps out!

Final result: Luke Maness wins via submission (rear naked choke) at 2:29 in round two.


145 lbs.: Jonathan Pearce vs. Kai Kamaka III

Kamaka brings a 8-2 record into the fight with the 9-4 Pearce. Pearce owns a height advantage at 6’0” to 5’7” and a two inch reach advantage at 71” to 69”. Kamaka sports the blue gloves and trunks and fights out of Pearl City, Hawaii. Pearce has black trunks, red gloves, and fights out of Phoenix, Arizona. The referee in charge is Dan Miragliotta.

Round 1: Kamaka offers a glove tap and Pearce accepts. Body kick from Kamaka. Front kick from Pearce. Kamaka works lefts to the body. Left to the chin. Kicks to the inside and outside of Pearce’s lead left leg. He switches stances to the right. Low kick but Pearce seems to ignore it. Kamaka takes him down at 1:40. He’s back up 12 seconds later. Pearce pops out the left. Leg kick for Kamaka. 1-2 from Pearce and Kamaka answers in kind. 2:30 gone. Kamaka attacks the left leg again. Pearce teases a single leg then a jump knee. Lefts from Kamaka. Pearce shoots a single and lets it go to throw a punch. Takedown by Pearce at 4:06. Kamaka gives up his back and Pearce gets a hook in before Kamaka stands up. Pearce hits him with a knee before they break with 20 seconds left. Very close first round. 10-9 Pearce.

Round 2: Pearce is already throwing kicks and hands and follows it up with a jump knee as we come back from commercial. He gets a takedown at 25 seconds. Kamaka stands up with Pearce on his back again with one hook in. Kamaka escapes just as he did before. Pearce lands a hard right. He tries to clinch for the knee but gets a takedown instead. He rears back and throws a hand straight down the pipe. Kamaka gets up at 2:12 and is thrown down again. Pearce takes the back with both hooks in and he’s flattening Kamaka out for ground and pound. This could end by strikes or a rear naked choke either way. Kamaka escapes and tries to take the back but they go back to the feet. Pearce takes him down and Kamaka is going for a guillotine. He gets out and he’s got Kamaka’s back again. The lefts and rights are slapping Kamaka silly. Miragliotta warns him to defend himself and he doesn’t — it’s over!

Final result: Jonathan Pearce wins via technical knockout at 4:28 of round two.
