Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is locked and loaded for the UFC Vegas 43 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which takes place tonight (Sat., Nov. 20, 2021) from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, streaming LIVE on ESPN+. Main event duties fall to women’s bantamweight contenders Ketlen Vieira and Miesha Tate, who collide for a spot in the 135-pound title chase. In the 170-pound co-headliner, undefeated welterweight sensation Sean Brady tests his might against grizzled veteran and former The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 15 winner, Michael Chiesa.

There’s a good blitz by Tate as she takes Vieira to the fence. They separate, combo from Vieira. Tate ties up again with a minute to go. More jabs from Vieira once she separates. Nice single-leg from Vieira, Tate sprawls on it. 10-9 Tate.

Round 2: Solid combinations from Veira early on. Tate with a glancing head kick. One minute in. Clean 1-2 from Tate, Vieira comes back with straight rights. She spins Tate around with a low kick. Low kick to jab two minutes in. Heavy exchange in center ring. Tate lands a front kick and eats a straight right in return. Great exchange in the center once again. Two minutes to go.

Round 5: Both women land 1-2s to start. Low kick and teep from Tate, eats a 1-2 in return. Good exchange in the center. One minute in. Uppercut and left hook from Vieira. Sporadic trades at range. 170 lbs.: Michael Chiesa vs. Sean Brady

Round 1: Chiesa prodding with arm punches, lands an eye poke. Low kick form Brady. One minute in. Straight left from Chiesa, double right from Brady in return. 2-3 and there’s another eye poke from Chiesa. Quick exchange, neither lands clean. Brady catches a body kick and takes him to the fence for a takedown two minutes in. Back up, back down. Two minutes to go.

Left hands from Brady on the way up. Chiesa separates with just over a minute to go. Solid counter left. 10-9 Brady.

Round 2: Jab lands for Chiesa. Combo from Brady in response. Good counter left soon after, Chiesa with a combination. One minute in. Both land in the center. Clean 1-2 by Chiesa. 2-3. Brady punches his way into a takedown attempt. Chiesa reverses, lands knees to the body. Brady drags him down and puts in one hook, then two with two minutes to go.

Brady controlling from back mount against the fence. Body triangle. Short punches. Chiesa tries to explode out, can’t do so. 10-9 Brady.

Round 3: Chiesa tries a flying knee, puts Brady on the fence when he ties up. Solid knees to the body. They separate. Lead right by Brady, Chiesa cracks him with a combo in return. Brady going hard for the takedown, denies an attempted switch and grabs a body lock. He gets Chiesa to the mat and retakes the back. Two minutes in. Both hooks in for Brady. Two minutes to go.

Chiesa defending well but unable to peel Brady off of him. One minute to go. Chiesa manages to explode to his feet and separate. Good punches, knee as Brady ties back up. Nice whizzer kick into side control. Chiesa takes the back and pounds, but the bell stops him short. 10-9 Chiesa.

125 lbs.: Joanne Wood vs. Taila Santos

Round 1: Wood tossing out kicks to start. Santos tries a blitz. Low kick connects. They trade punches a minute in. Wood 1-2, tries a head kick. Solid cross lands for Santos, who walks into a knee. Brief clinch. Wood continuing to pick away at a distance. Two minutes in. Both land low kicks. Wood 1-2. 3-2. Body kick to answer a combo. Two minutes to go.

Wood lingers a bit too long inside and Santos clips her with an overhand right on the exit, following her down on the fence. They stand, trade knees. Four-piece drops Wood again. Santos grabs a rear crucifix, tries the RNC with under a minute to go. More punches by Santos to open up the neck, can’t get it. Now it’s in and there’s the tap.

Final result: Santos def. Wood by submission (rear naked choke)


135 lbs.: Kyung Ho Kang vs. Rani Yahya

Round 1: Some quick boxing exchanges to start. Kang tries a flying knee that Yahya catches for a shot. Kang defending against the fence, lands elbows, ends up on his seat a minute in. Yahya looking for the back. He tries to pull Kang down, can’t. Rolling leglock attempt, can’t get it and Kang waves him up. Two minutes in. Left hook from Kang, clean jabs. Low kicks from Yahya, who lands an uppercut but eats a combo. More jabs from Kang. Right hand around the guard after eating some low kicks. Two minutes to go.

Yahya tries a spinning back kick. Clean 1-2 from Kang, who drops Yahya with another cross and kicks at his legs before waving him up. More combinations from Kang and Yahya looks unsteady with a minute to go. Counter uppercut lands. Yahya tries a hook in return. Low blow by Kang. Yahya shoots, pulls half guard. 10-9 Kang.

Round 2: Another clean 1-2 from Kang in the opening seconds. He stuffs a shot, lands a low kick, gets taken down for it. Yahya on top in half guard. Lovely spin to the back. Looking for the RNC a minute in. Continuing to hunt he choke as Kang fights his hands. Two minutes in. Occasionally chipping away with punches as he works. Two minutes to go.

More of the same. One minute to go. Not enough damage for a 10-8. 10-9 Yahya.

Round 3: More sharp boxing from Kang. Yahya stings him with a left hook in return. Kang manages to sting him and chase him down against the fence until Yahya pulls guard. Yahya uses a front headlock to sweep into top position, hunting a guillotine. Looking for the back, has the rear crucifix a minute in. Now to side control, then half guard. Two minutes to go. Kang regains guard. He’s trying to punch off his back but not doing much else. Two minutes to go.

Yahya moves to half guard. Back to full. One minute to go. Short punches from Yahya. 10-9 Yahya.

Final result: Yahya def. Kang by unanimous decision


135 lbs.: Davey Grant vs. Adrian Yanez

Round 1: Trading low kicks early. Yanez catches a kick, lets it go. Solid kicks from Grant in the early going. Jumping front kick attempt. Lead right lands for Yanez. Grant tries a spinning back fist a minute in. Another good low kick by Grant. Yanez with a pull counter right, takes another body kick, comes back with a two-piece. Both fire low kicks. Yanez three-piece. Grant falls short with a wheel kick two minutes in. Yanez seemingly dialing in the right cross. Jumping body kick from Grant. Counter three-piece comes back his way. Low kicks seemingly bothering Yanez. Two minutes to go.

Grant tries another jumping front kick, walks into a counter right. Wheel kick attempt. Yanez hurts him with a counter left, then slips to come back with a nasty right. Both land right crosses. One minute to go. Yanez jabs. Hug tornado from Grant. Yanez slips a blitz, takes a glancing spinning punch. 10-9 Yanez.

Round 2: Trading early. Grant still finding the mark with low kicks, lands a hard 1-1-2. Counter right by Yanez. Grant tries a combo. 1-2 a minute in. More low kicks. Grant tries to spin, takes a tumble when Yanez catches a kick. Yanez takes a finger in the eye and has to take a moment to recover. Two minutes in. More kicks from Grant, who tries a double-leg. Yanez fires a low kick and they trade for a moment. Lead left from Grant. Another wild spin. Two minutes to go.

1-2 from Yanez, combo comes back at him. He tries a 1-2 and eats a pair of counters. Jump knee from Grant, who stings Yanez with a flurry. One minute to go. Heavy right cross lands for Grant. Head kick attempt. Straight left rattles Yanez. 10-9 Grant.

Round 3: Punches and kicks from both men. Body kick by Grant. They trade calf kicks a minute in. Body shot from Grant, 1-1-2 from Yanez. Grant tries a flying knee ,gets clipped by a left hook, continues to send out heavy volleys. Yanez 1-2, Grant spinning back kick. Both land brutal right hands, Grant follows up with a glancing head kick and body shot. Two minutes in. Heavy counter right by Yanez met by a lead left. More right hands land clean. 145 lbs.: Pat Sabatini vs. Tucker Lutz

Round 1: Sabatini circling as they trade quick flurries. Body kick lands, good counters from Lutz. Sabatini low kick and he shoots a minute in. Lutz gets a second underhook in and reverses. Knee lands for him as Sabatini changes levels. Sabatini peeling Lutz’s base out, Lutz popping up each time. Now he lands on top in guard two minutes in. Back up, back down, Sabatini gets a hook in. Two minutes to go.

Left hands from Sabatini, both hooks in. He tries to wrap up the RNC, can’t get it under the jaw. One minute to go. Looking to soften Lutz up from the body triangle. 10-9 Sabatini.

Round 2: Quick exchanges to start. Sabatini times a low kick for a double-leg. On top in half guard. Right hands from Sabatini a minute in. Staying heavy, landing short punches. Lutz not doing anything to try and stand. Side control. Lutz looks to spin out and gets caught in a guillotine two minutes in. Sabatini rides it into mount, then retakes the back. Full body triangle. Round 3: Lutz fires some early combos. Sabatini changes levels for a single-leg attempt. Lutz changes levels in return and drags him to his seat a minute in. 155 lbs.: Rafa Garcia vs. Natan Levy

Round 1: Garcia pressuring, Levy firing kicks off the back foot. Nice low kick from Levy. He slips, gets caught in the front headlock. One minute in. Stalemated in the front headlock. Now Garcia drags him down into side control. Levy quickly stands and separates, landing a good knee to the body two minutes in. Hard body kick. Overhand right from Garcia. Levy’s outworking him so far, eats a jab to the body and tries to come back with a wheel kick. Left hook and counter right by Garcia in return. Two minutes to go.

Liking the body attack so far from Levy. Good exchange in the center. Slick two-piece, Brazilian kick that appears to land. He catches a body kick from Garcia. Garcia grabs a rear waist lock and hauls him to the fence. One minute to go. Garcia continuing to grind. Great foot sweep by Levy, who then separates and lands a two-piece. Garcia spins him down with a quick single-leg. Fun round. 10-9 Levy.

Round 2: Levy opens with low kicks. Garcia to the body. Garcia catches a head kick for a successful takedown. Heavy cross lands for him as Levy stands and separates. One minute in. Counter right from Garcia, quick exchange in center cage. Levy body kick, Garcia low kick. Glancing left hook by Garcia, body shot, body kick. Levy answers in kind two minutes in. Another body kick from Levy. Nice combinations from both men. Straight rights from Garcia, side kicks from Levy. Levy ducks a right hand for a double-leg and hunts the back with two minutes to go.

Garcia works his way to his feet, Levy still attached. Nice mat return. Garcia tries some behind-the-back elbow, then breaks the grip and stands. Levy body kick, Garcia hunts a single-leg. One minute to go. They separate. Head kick and double-leg from Levy, denied. Counter knee, clean body kick. Garcia fires a double-leg and takes the angle to complete it. Levy to his knees. Another close round. 10-9 Levy.

Round 3: Back to the high-speed exchanges. Levy shrugs off a low blow. Garcia looks for an overhand right into a single-leg, can’t get it. One minute in. Levy tries a head kick, lands a glancing right hook when Garcia catches it. Nice exchange inside. Garcia shoots, jumps on his back when Levy tries a fancy throw. Levy works his way up and separates two minutes in. Garcia shoots again, rebuffed again. Jab connects, eats a knee inside. Levy with a spinning back kick and this next single-leg from Garcia puts him on top in half guard. Levy working his way up. Two minutes to go.

Garcia continues to drive, hits a nice lift for another takedown. Levy gets right back up. They separate. Levy shoots, gets sprawled on. One minute to go. Hard knee by Garcia forces Levy to put his hand on the mat again. Now they stand and separate. Levy body kick, marches forward. Good body shot. Nice double-leg by Garcia to get back on top in guard and he immediately starts dropping punches. Great fight. 10-9 Garcia; I think Levy eked out the first two but they both have an argument.

115 lbs.: Loopy Godinez vs. Loma Lookboonmee

Round 1: Early combination work from Godinez. Solid body shot after blocking kicks. Lookboonmee body kick, then a nice trip when Godinez ties up. Jockeying for position in the clinch a minute in. Trading outside position on the fence. They separate. Two minutes in. Body kick from Lookboonmee, eats a right cross inside. More kicks from Lookboonmee, eats a left hand, gets pressed against the fence. Two minutes to go.

Godinez tries to wrench her down, can’t do so. Trading knees inside, elbow from Lookboonmee. They separate with a minute to go. Right hand to body kick from Lookboonmee. Tried a head kick, eats a left hook. Good right hand by Godinez. Nice reactive shot into guard, then half guard. 10-9 Godinez.

Round 2: Godinez pressuring, throwing combos, hits a perfectly dimted double-leg. Side control against the fence. One minute in. Lookboonmee works her way up, Godinez still attached. Two minutes in. Godinez can’t drag her down at the moment but isn’t letting go. Now Lookboonmee slips out the back door as Godinez tries to jump on her back. Hard knee connects, then one as Godinez changes levels. Godinez still drives through and completes the shot. Lookboonmee landing elbows off her back. Two minutes to go.

Godinez moves to half guard and chips away with punches and elbows. One minute to go. Now mount, then the back. Looking to soften Lookboonmee up. 10-9 Godinez.

Round 3: Godinez hits an early single-leg into side control. Now in leglock position as Lookboonmee looks to sweep. Lookboonmee lands elbows, has to fight off a heel hook a minute in. Lookboonmee slowly gets her knee out and settles on top in guard. Short punches from Lookboonmee. Godinez working her way to her feet, eating knees to the body. Two minutes to go.

Godinez looks for a takedown, can’t get it, immediately re-shoots and dumps her down into half guard. Now the back. One minute to go. Lookboonmee makes it up, tries a trip, digs in some hard knees to the body. 10-9 Lookboonmee on strikes but it’s close.

Final result: Godinez def. Lookboonmee by unanimous decision


125 lbs.: Cody Durden vs. Aoriqileng

Round 1: Hard low kicks from Durden early on. Solid body kick comes back at him. Durden tries a head kick, then hits a double-leg against the fence. Short right hands on the way up. One minute in. Nice mat return to land on top in half guard. Aoriqileng regains guard. Durden postures up for a pair of right hands, but they allow Aoriqileng to get to his feet and try a flying knee. Durden low kick. Two minutes to go.

Durden shoots against the fence. Very determined drive, gets him to his seat with a double-leg. One minute to go. Aoriqileng makes it to his feet, then separates shortly there after. Nice right cross lands for him, then one to counter e leg kick. They trade knees inside. 10-9 Durden.

Round 2: Durden already looks exhausted. Body kick from Aoriqileng, right hand from Durden in return. Aoriqileng combination. Stiff jabs from Durden, gets countered throwing a leg kick. Nasty uppercut from Aoriqileng. One minute in. He ties up against the fence and they trade on the exit. More Durden low kicks, more Aoriqileng counter rights in return. Two minutes in. Long-range level change easily denied. Good exchange as Durden puts him on the fence. Can’t get the single-leg, both fire right hands on the break. More Durden jabs, then a counter right as Aoriqileng looks for a leg kick. Two minutes to go.

Durden slips and ends up on the bottom throwing a kick. He scrambles back to his feet. Calf kick as he eats a right hand. Durden with a 1-1-2, uppercut, and stiff jab. Jab exchange. Solid right hands from Aoriqileng, who stuffs a takedown. High-speed exchange. 10-9 Aoriqileng.

Round 3: Aoriqileng potshotting. Jabs from Durden. They exchange in the center. Aoriqileng low kick a minute in. Durden shoots, denied by about five different fence grabs, but manages to turn his way into top guard. One hook in against the fence two minutes in. Good trip to put him back on the mat. Aoriqileng trying to use the fence to stand. Two minutes to go.

Aoriqileng makes it to his feet, hits a hip toss. Durden manages to slip out and they stand. Trading punches against the fence. One minute to go. Knee from Aoriqileng. Pushing forward. Durden manages to grab a body lock and put him on the fence. Aoriqileng tries to drag him down, continues to fight off the shot. 10-9 Durden.

Final result: Durden def. Aoriqileng by unanimous decision


145 lbs.: Shayilan Nuerdanbieke vs. Sean Soriano

Round 1: Low kicks from Soriano early on. Nuerdanbieke throws one to the inside. One minute in. Continuing to trade kicks. Jab catches Nuerdanbieke changing levels and staggers him for a moment. He comes back with a low blow. Soriano goes back to the leg kicks when they resume. Two minutes in. Nuerdanbieke times the next one for a double-leg. Great scramble by Soriano to sweep into top guard. Two minutes to go.

Short left hands from Soriano. Sneaky elbows. Nuerdanbieke looks for an armbar and Soriano disengages to let him up. Body kick and low kick from Soriano. Three-piece combo with a minute to go. Nuerdanbieke digs a right cross downstairs, then shoots. No dice. Soriano lands a low kick, avoids a wheel kick. Clean hook upstairs, then a back take as Nuerdanbieke tries to spin. 10-9 Soriano.

Round 2: Nuerdanbieke shoots from distance, denied. Soriano comes back with a combination and body kick. Nuerdanbieke low kick, Soriano body kick a minute in. Clean jab and left hook by Soriano to answer a right cross. Nuerdanbieke fakes him out with a level change, lands a sharp 1-2. Soriano times a jab on a level change again, then trips Nuerdanbieke to the mat in return. Nuerdanbieke elevates and sweeps into half guard two minutes in. Full mount. Soriano tries to sweep with an underhook, can’t get it. Two minutes to go.

Nuerdanbieke moves to the back, but gets swept into guard, only to wrench Soriano right back over into half guard. One minute to go. Nuerdanbieke chipping away with punches. 10-9 Nuerdanbieke.

Round 3: Nuerdanbieke tries an early head kick, then takes Soriano down with a double-leg before hitting a lovely suplex. Soriano stands, get spun back down. One minute in. Back mount, body triangle for Nuerdanbieke. Two minutes in. Soriano looks like he’s given up. Two minutes to go.

115 lbs.: Sam Hughes vs. Luana Pinheiro

Round 1: Tentative start to the fight, both women keeping their distance. Sending out jabs a minute in, low kick from Hughes. Solid lead hook. Pinheiro launches some right hands that go wide. Pinheiro blitzes, then hurls Hughes to the mat as the latter throws back. On top in side control two minutes in. Hughes regains guard. Pinheiro lands a good right hand, then moves to the front headlock. Two minutes to go.

No dice on a Peruvian necktie, but she threatens a guillotine to set up an outside trip into guard. Hughes returns to her feet and separates with a minute to go. Side kick to the midsection. Pinheiro jabs the body. Back to that tentative range striking. 10-9 Pinheiro.

Round 2: Hughes tossing out kicks to start. Pinheiro leg kick. One minute in. Neither has committed to a heavy strike yet. Hughes lands a leg kick, avoids a 1-2. Two minutes in. Counter jab. More jabs. Pinheiro ties up with two minutes to go.

Hughes denies the throw. Pinheiro basically letting her potshot with impunity. Hughes continuing to pick away, slips throwing a head kick. Pinheiro rushes to capitalize, can’t do so. One minute to go. There’s a counter right for Pinheiro, then a clean left hook. Pinheiro, invigorated, blitzes forward and floors Hughes against the fence.
