Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is locked and loaded for the UFC Vegas 44 mixed martial arts (MMA) event TONIGHT (Sat., Dec. 4, 2021) from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, streaming LIVE on ESPN and ESPN+. Main event duties fall to bantamweight title contenders Rob Font and Jose Aldo, who collide for a spot in the 135-pound title chase. In UFC Vegas 44’s co-headliner, once-beaten lightweight bruisers Brad Riddell and Rafael Fiziev hook ‘em up for the chance to announce their arrival at 155 pounds.

Round 3: Low kicks from Aldo. Font comes back with an uppercut and jabs. Brief clinch. Another Aldo low kick. Continuing to advance as Font tries to potshot. Font shoots, ends up on the bottom a minute in. Full mount for Aldo. Font regains half guard before any damage can be done. Back to guard. Aldo not super active from the top. Half guard. Font regains guard once again. He uses the fence to stand and looks to open up on the break. Jabs landing for Font, nice uppercut. Round 5: Font putting on the volume, lands a solid 1-2. Flying knee attempt. Aldo launhces a cross counter. Looping right from Font. He puts Aldo on the fence a minute in. Nasty elbow on the exit. Body shot, hook. Aldo marching forward, snaps his head back with a jab. Font puts him on the fence. Two minutes in. Aldo tries to push his way off, denied. Heavy elbow and uppercut land for Font, who gets rattled by a heavy right cross. Aldo follows up with a vicious liver shot and blasts him until Font changes levels. Aldo jumps on his back. Round 1: Low kick lands for Riddell. Fiziev comes back with a body kick. Kick exchange a minute in. Fiziev just misses with a wheel kick. Left hook exchange. Tit-for-tat so far, taking turns. Round 1: Crute launching some early kicks. Low kick connects. Hill comes back with a right hook that drops Crute, who pops right back up and ties up. Knee to the body from Hill. Another counter right hook floors Crute and Hill drills him with another punch to turn the lights out.

Final result: Hill def. Crute by KO (punches)


155 lbs.: Clay Guida vs. Leonardo Santos

Round 1: Guida with his usual hyperactive movement. Low kicks from Santos. One minute in. Hard body kick hurts Guida and Santos tries to pound him out against the fence. Guida tries a desperation shot as he eats more and more hammerfists. He makes it up, gets dropped by a knee. He tries to shoots, eats more knees. He somehow survives and they separate two minutes in. Santos looks like he punched himself out. Guida advancing, not throwing. Two minutes to go.

Guida throwing some punches, but falling short. He shoots against the fence, loses his mouthpiece again. Santos exhausted and backpedaling. Guida lands a left hook and slams him into guard with a minute to go. Guida moves to half guard and drop elbows. 10-9 Santos.

Round 2: Guida rushes after him, eats a knee, shoots. He drags Santos to his knees and fires knees to the body. One hook in. One minute in. Hunting the RNC. He goes palm-to-palm and there’s the tap. Unbelievable comeback by Guida.

185 lbs.: Brendan Allen vs. Chris Curtis

Round 1: Early exchange in the center. Allen tries a head kick, then slams Curtis to the ground and jumps on his back as he stands. Curtis peels the hooks off and separates. Allen lands a body kick. Trading punches. One minute in. Solid body shot from Curtis. Four-piece upstairs. Allen cracks him with a cross, steps in with a knee. They trade hooks. Two minutes in. Oblique kick from Allen. Curtis pops him with a straight left and blocks a head kick. Another solid left by Curtis, then a right hook to the body. Allen body kick, Curtis low kicks, Allen body kick. Two minutes to go.

Another body kick from Allen. Curtis answers with a left downstairs. Another body shot from Curtis. Glancing head kick, nice combo behind it. Allen with his own head kick. One minute to go. Another nice body shot by Curtis, who eats a lead right. They continue to exchange and a right hook takes out Allen’s legs. He wobbles to the fence and Curtis looks to pour it on. Allen tries to fire back, but some knees put him on his back and send the ref into action.

Round 1: Morono advancing, lands a glancing 1-2. One minute in. Low kick from Morono. Gall tries a body kick. Morono double jab. Low kick from Gall. Long right by Morono. Two minutes in. Hard exchange at close range. Gall body kick. Four-piece by Morono. Gall lands a stiff jab. Body kick. Two minutes to go.

Morono goes to the body, then connects with a jab upstairs. Flurry attempt. Gall walks into a jab that drops him and Morono follows him down into guard. Gall tries to turn for a leg. Round 1: Kape opens with a flying knee attempt. Zhumagulov pushing forward, lands a clean overhand right. Counter uppercut lands for Kape. Zhumagulov knocks him back with a right hand. Low kick a minute in. Uppercut-cross, low kick. Calf kick from Kape. Lots of feints from both men. Zhumagulov to the body. Kape digs a counter knee to the body. Two minutes in. Stiff jab from Zhumagulov, fast exchange. Clean left hook from Zhumagulov. Jab lands as he eats a low kick. Kape continuing to land leg kicks, tries a flying knee. Zhumagulov outworking him so far, lands an uppercut. Two minutes to go.

Zhumagulov low kick. Kape lands a long lead right, then one behind a whiffed knee. Zhumagulov answers to the body. Kape lands a low kick, tries another, then floors Zhumagulov with a 3-2. Kape on the attack as Zhumagulov stands. Vicious combination work against the fence and Zhumagulov slowly crumples under the onslaught.

Round 1: Both men kicking early. No major connections in the first minute. There’s a quick exchange. Weeks hauls him to the fence, then takes him down into half guard. Barberena uses the fence to stand. Weeks tries an elbow on the break two minutes in. Check hook lands. Low kicks landing well for Barberena. Two minutes to go.

Weeks’ left leg already looks compromised. He shoots a single-leg in center cage. Barberena reverses on the fence. They separate with less than a minute to go. More front kicks from Weeks. Reactive shot after avoiding a left hand, denied. Another Barberena low kick. 10-9 Barberena.

Round 2: Weeks hits a quick takedown into guard as Barberena rushes in. Barberena looking for an armbar. Weeks pops his arm free and lands some punches on the way up. One minute in. Right hand to the body. Barberena tries an elbow, lands a left hand. They trade in the center. Weeks tries a front kick to combination, then lands a solid knee in the clinch. Barberena lands on the break, then chucks him aside before stepping in with heavier punches two minutes in. Weeks shoves him away. Barberena back on the advance. He shrugs off an accidental foul. Round 3: Right back to the higher-tempo exchanges. Weeks hauls him to the fence. Solid dirty boxing on both sides before they separate. Barberena slips on a high kick, then goes back to marching forward and rips the body. Two minutes in. Weeks lands to the head, Barberena to the body. Snap kick by Weeks, eats a straight left down the pipe. Good overhand left and low kicks by Barberena. Weeks with some right hands in combination. Two minutes to go.

Another straight left from Barberena and a 3-2. Weeks answers a body shot with a heavy left hook. Trading heat. Three-piece by Weeks. Brutal right hands by Barberena. Body shots, then to the head. Heavy lead right. One minute to go. 1-2 by Weeks. Barberena to the body. Heavy trading on the fence, Barberena continuing to rip the body. Weeks ducks a left hand for a double-leg. 115 lbs.: Cheyanne Vlismas vs. Mallory Martin

Round 1: Vlismas throwing early volume. Sharp 1-2. Nice exchange. Martin connects with a good right cross. Continuing to trade at close range. One minute in. Good shots on both sides. Martin catches a kick, can’t use it. Clubbing right by Vlismas. Martin comes back with a combo. Two minutes in. Both connect with right hands. Martin splits the guard with a jab. Martin ducks a left hook and looks for a trip. No dice. Lead right from Vlismas, then on the counter. Uppercut. Jab exchanges. Counter 2-1 from Vlismas, vicious 1-2. Excellent combination work. 205 lbs.: William Knight vs. Alonzo Menifield

Round 1: 1-2 from Menifield to start. Knight ducks an overhand right and takes him down, but Menifield rolls through to land on top in side control. Shoulder strikes a minute in. Knight slips out when Menifield looks for scarf hold, then latches onto Menifield’s back. Two minutes in. Menifield spins free and threatens a takedown, adjusting when Knight looks for a guillotine. Menifield ignores a low blow. Knight holding onto a front headlock. Two minutes to go.

Knight still holding onto the front headlock as Menifield drives in. Now they separate with a minute to go. Counter 1-2 from Menifield as Knight flings out low kicks. Hard right cross from Knight, then a counter left hook that floors Menifield. Menifield somehow survives. 10-9 Knight.

Round 2: Menifield checks a leg kick, lands a counter and Knight rushes to separate. Brutal straight right stings Knight, Menifield hangs back. Low kick exchange a minute in. Knight considers, abandons a level change. Knight fires a front kick. Menifield lead right. Counter 1-2 to answer a front kick. Knight tries a wheel kick. 1-2, left hook by Menifield. Two minutes in. Left hook upstairs. Knight fries another front kick, then a spinning back fist. Menifield 3-2, then a left hook catches Knight spinning. Knight tries an overhand right. Two minutes to go.

Round 1: Low kick from Gruetzemacher, body kick from Puelles. Body kick exchange. Puelles shoots, completes it into guard. One minute in. Solid elbow. Gruetzemacher not doing much off of his back. Two minutes in. Gruetzemacher tries an armbar, gives up half guard. Two minutes to go.

Puelles working to try and take his back, then goes to quarter guard with a guillotine. Drops it. Elbows from Puelles in mount. One minute to go. Heavy shots. Gruetzemacher regains half guard. Puelles passes to side control, then north-south. Scramble at the end. 10-9 Puelles, borderline 10-8.

Round 2: Solid early strikes from Puelles. He shoots, denied, tries again and gets sprawled on. Puelles pulls guard. One minute in. Left hands from Gruetzemacher. Puelles with hammerfists off his back. Now a triangle attempt. Gruetzemacher postures up, then patiently works his arm back in. Two minutes in. Deep half guard. Gruetzemacher uses a whizzer to deny a sweep, but gets hurt with a head kick and left hands when they return to the feet. Puelles shoots. Two minutes to go.

Gruetzemacher reverses, then separates. Quick exchange in the center. Puelles launching solid kicks. He shoots, denied. Body kick from Gruetzemacher with a minute to go. Gruetzemacher knee, Puelles elbow. Puelles puts him on the fence. Trading little foot sweeps and knees. Solid elbows from Puelles. Gruetzemacher lands a knee, denies a level change. 10-9 Puelles.

Round 3: Early clinch, then Puelles takes a knee right to the nuts. Puelles tries a pair of head kicks. Solid punches from Gruetzemacher, who stuffs a takedown. They trade elbows on the fence. One minute in. Puelles low kick. He shoots, denied, and Gruetzemacher spins into top turtle to drop punches. Puelles returns to his feet and puts him on the fence. Two minutes in. Gruetzemacher shoves him down and takes top position. Puelles turns for a leg. Hammerfists by Puelles. Gruetzemacher stacks him, goes back to punching from turtle with two minutes to go.

Puelles rolls for a leg again and this time he’s got the kneebar, forcing the tap.

Smolka continuing to target the lead leg, eats a quick flurry and comes back with a left hook a minute in. Tight hook from Morales. Smolka pushing forward, eats a low-high combo. Punching exchanges, both land low kicks. Smolka clinches up to land knees, then gets crushed by an overhand right on the exit. Smolka goes down face-first and Morales swarms for the finish.
