Evan Elder sparked UFC Denver with a second-round submission and then saluted former President Donald Trump earlier tonight (Sat., July 13, 2024) live on ESPN/ESPN+ from inside Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado.
Elder, who was the opening fight of the card, was the sizeable betting favorite to take care of business against fellow welterweight prospect Darrius Flowers. The two fighters went back-and-forth for the first round, though, but Elder was landing the better shots on the feet.
Flowers ended up going to his wrestling in the second round, but eventually lost his position to Elder. That’s when Elder worked quickly to lock up a tight arm-triangle choke and forced Flowers to tap right away. It was a complete performance by Elder, who now improves to 2-2 inside of the Octagon.

After his fight, Elder shouted out Trump during his post-fight interview. In case you haven’t seen it, Trump was part of an apparent assassination attempt Saturday night in Pennsylvania. The former President is okay, but he was bleeding from his ear and face. Elder wanted to pay his respect to Trump while he had a chance to speak.
“I heard they just tried to whack my boy Trump,” said Elder (shown below). “I’m glad that man’s okay. Long live Trump. Trump 2024.”
