Welterweight Vicente Luque would like a step up in competition following his TKO win at UFC Phoenix.
He may be a little battered, but Vicente Luque already has some names in mind for his future after his three-round war against fellow banger Bryan Barberena. A fight Luque won via TKO in the final seconds, at UFC on ESPN 1: Ngannou vs. Velasquez in Phoenix, AZ. In an interview with Combate, the welterweight prospect called the affair the most exciting fight of his life and says he won’t forget the thrill of that night.
“It was the most exciting fight (of my career), that’s for sure. It gives you some joy and some goosebumps at the same time. I felt enormous happiness during the fight, when I heard the crowd, I knew it was a war. It was a great and special fight, it will be in my memory forever.”
The win over Barberena put Luque on a four-fight winning streak with all wins coming by way of KO or submission. And that has Vicente believing he could be ready for a step up in competition. The ‘Silent Assassin’ even has the names to go with it.
“I would really like to fight Jorge Masvidal, but he has a fight coming up now. Another guy is Neil Magny, if I’m not mistaken, he has no fights booked. That would be a good fight for me, he is a ranked fighter so that’s interesting. I feel ready to take on anybody, the higher the better. I want someone in the top 10, but I wouldn’t turn down a top 15 opponent.”
In his last four fights, Vicente Luque (15-6-1) defeated Bryan Barberena, Jalin Turner, Chad Laprise and Niko Price. The 27-year-old’s last loss occurred in March 2017, when Leon Edwards bested him via unanimous decision.
