Dollaway (15-5), who wrestled at Arizona State, has come into his own over the past two years, winning four out of his past five fights and winning two postfight bonuses in the process. His only loss in that stretch was a split decision to Tim Boetsch; his most recent victory was a unanimous decision over Francis Carmont on May 31.
Machida (21-5) represents Dollaway’s toughest task to date. The former 205-lb. champion gave current middleweight champion Chris Weidman the toughest battle of his career at UFC 175, coming on strong over the final two rounds after dropping the first three to the undefeated kingpin before coming up short on the scorecards.
That was Machida’s first loss at 185 pounds, as he had previously knocked out Mark Munoz and earned a unanimous decision over Gegard Mousasi.
Come Dec. 20, C.B. Dollaway will take a quantum leap forward in the middleweight division and face the biggest challenge of his career.
