Abraham Kawa doesn’t think Jon Jones has any reason to go up to heavyweight to prove his legacy.
Jon Jones has long flirted with a move up to the heavyweight division, but the reigning UFC light heavyweight champ has yet to make the plunge.
The pound-for-pound king revealed last month that he was looking to secure a heavyweight title fight against Stipe Miocic, but the UFC went ahead and booked Miocic vs. Cormier III instead.
With the Miocic fight now off the cards, Jones’s manager Abraham Kawa says it only makes sense for ‘Bones’ to move up to the heavyweight division for the right paycheck.
According to Kawa, Jones has already etched his name into the history books as the greatest fighter of all time.
“Jon’s comfortable at light heavyweight,” Kawa told MMA Junkie on Thursday. “He has no reason to go up to heavyweight unless it makes financial sense for him. He’s already proved that he’s the best fighter that we’ve ever seen. He’s already proved that he’s the GOAT. In my opinion, he’s the GOAT.
“I don’t know if he goes to heavyweight. If the challenge is there and the challenge makes financial sense, he may or may not do it, it’s really up to him so that’s a question for Jon, but it won’t be a question that I believe he would answer today.”
If Jones did move up to heavyweight, Kawa would like to see the JacksonWink product take on WWE star and former UFC HW champ Brock Lesnar.
“Everyone is dying to see Jon jump to heavyweight, well ok, there’s your jump to heavyweight,” Kawa said. “Give him the big, scary monster that is Brock Lesnar and we could go from there.”
Jones is set to defend his light heavyweight title against Dominick Reyes at UFC 247. The pay-per-view takes place next month, Feb. 8 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
