Canadian Mark Hominick (19-8) and multi-division fighter George Roop (11-6-1) will meet at the upcoming “UFC Fgiht for the Troops” 2 event (aka UFC Fight Night 23) in a featherweight matchup.
Sources close to the fight noted that the fight would only be booked if Hominick’s hand was fully recovered by that time. Heavy.com was the first to report the bout on Monday.
Hominick is riding a four fight win streak all under the WEC promotion, having gone 6-1 in his past seven bouts. He last appeared at WEC 51 in September against Leonard Garcia and earned a split decision for the win. His other three wins in that streak came over Yves Jabouin at WEC 49, Bryan Caraway at WEC 46, and Savant Young at the Affliction: Banned event in July of 2008. Hominick has already fought under the UFC banner, making his debut back in May of 2006 as a lightweight fighter. He submitted Yves Edwards by triangle armbar submission at the event.
Roop’s career has spanned three weight divisions having fought at lightweight in the UFC, as well as featherweight and bantamweight in the WEC. He is currently 1-1-1 in his last three coming off a devastating knockout of Chan Sung Jung (aka The Korean Zombie) at WEC 51. The brutal knockout won him the “Knockout of the Night.” Before that win he earned a draw against Leonard Garcia at WEC 47 in a featherweight bout, as well as the “Fight of the Night” honor, and lost a unanimous decision to Eddie Wineland at WEC 46 fighting at bantamweight.
