Officials with the Ultimate Fighting Championship added a heavyweight bout to the promotions upcoming Memorial Day weekend event in Las Vegas, as the ‘Super Samoan’ Mark Hunt (8-7) is set to face Stefan ‘Skyscraper’ Struve (23-5) at UFC 146.
The latest addition to that roster comes as verbal agreements are in for a matchup between the UFC’s tallest fighter and one of its hardest hitters: Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve takes on Mark “Super Samoan” Hunt.
The promotion also confirmed that the entire main card for UFC 146 would be entirely heavyweights.
UFC 146 is expected to take place on May 26, 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The remaining heavyweight bouts include a title match between champion Junior dos Santos vs. Alistair Overeem, a No. 1 contender bout featuring former champs Cain Velasquez and Frank Mir, the debut of Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva vs. Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson, and a match between Gabriel Gonzaga versus undefeated former Strikeforce fighter Shane del Rosario.
Hunt was in action last month at UFC 144 in Japan, the former K-1 kickboxer stopped opponent Cheick Kongo in convincing fashion with a first round TKO. It was the third straight victory for the ‘Super Samoan’ who also wins over Ben Rothwell and Chris Tuchscherer. His current record is quite the opposite of his six straight losses from 2006 to his debut at UFC 119 in 2010.
Struve also fought in February as part of the UFC on FUEL TV 1 card in Nebraska. There he earned a second round TKO stoppage over Dave Herman on the television broadcasted event. It was ‘Skyscraper’s’ second straight win, having submitted Pat Barry at UFC on Versus 6 last October. Those wins puts Struve at 4-1 over his last five matches.
