Oklahoma State University wrestler and UFC middleweight fighter, Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Muñoz (10-2) has drawn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist Demian Maia (14-2) for the upcoming UFC 131 event in Vancouver.
MMAMania.com confirmed news of the bout earlier today. The bout will certainly air on the pay-per-view rather than the preliminary card.
Muñoz earned a quick victory last week by stopping C.B. Dollaway in the co-main event of UFC Live: Sanchez vs. Kampmann in Louisville, Kentucky. He earned a 54 second TKO win, the second in a row and his fifth in six matches. Muñoz earned a unanimous decision against Aaron Simpson at UFC 123 bouncing back from a split decision loss to Yushin Okami at the UFC Live: Jones vs. Matyushenko event.
Maia has also won his last two bouts, both unanimous decision victories against Kendall Grove at the “TUF 12 Finale,” and against Mario Miranda at UFC 118. The wins have helped him bounce back from a middleweight title loss to champion Anderson Silva at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi. Maia has put together an 8-2 record in the UFC with four “Submission of the Night” bonuses.
UFC 131 is headlined by a UFC heavyweight match between former champ Brock Lesnar and his “TUF 13″ opposing coach Junior dos Santos. The event will take place on June 11 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
