Leon Edwards is still gunning for a fight with Jorge Masvidal, despite “Gamebred” wanting a rematch with Kamaru Usman.

Jorge Masvidal’s calls for a rematch with UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman have caught the attention of a frustrated Leon Edwards.

Masvidal (35-14) took to Twitter to make his claim for another title shot in his next fight. ‘Gamebred’ recently lost a unanimous decision to Usman last month, at UFC 251, filling in on less than a week’s notice for Gilbert Burns who pulled out of the fight due to COVID-19.

“6 days. 20 pounds. Flew to Vegas. Vegas to Abu Dhabi. Fought the champ. Created the damage. He’s out for a minute,” Masvidal wrote. “I’ve been ready since I got back. Time to move the division forward. Your move.”

But, if that’s Masvidal’s plan, Edwards isn’t a fan. The Brit is ranked third at 170-pounds and is currently on an eight-fight winning streak with his last loss coming to Usman in 2015. ‘Rocky’ was supposed to fight former champion Tyron Woodley earlier this year but the current pandemic meant the event was cancelled.

After calling Masvidal a ‘p—y’ on Twitter, Edwards explained that while Woodley and Covington are now scheduled to fight each other, Burns should get his fight against the champion. If all that goes according to plan, it leaves Edwards and Masvidal to face one another.

Edwards is yet to fight in 2020 but won consecutive decisions against Rafael Dos Anjos and Gunnar Nelson in 2019.
