There is a lot of beef and tension between Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards, months after the two men were involved in a backstage scuffle in Liverpool, England (see it again here). But despite the fact that both top five Welterweights proved victorious in their last bouts, a fight between the two doesn’t seem imminent.
According to Edwards, UFC did offer “Gamebred” the bout recently, but ultimately turned it down. Not so, say Abraham Kawa, Jorge’s manager. To hear his side of the story, Masvidal was never offed a fight against Leon because he already has his title shot set.
“#Fakenews, we were never offered a fight with Leon as we already negotiated a title shot after the askren win. This is a desperate attempt. Yes Jorge next fight is for the title,” he wrote on social media. “As for “demands” it can’t be a demand if it was already agreed to before he fought askren. Thanks,” he concluded.
Needless to say, Edwards wasn’t too pleased with that response and offered up a rebuttal of his own.

“Shut your lying mouth you fat fuck,” said Leon. “Stop trying to protect your boy and stop your desperate attempts to be tough on twitter, your quite as a mouse in person.”
According to UFC president Dana White, Jorge is going to be (or was) offered a fight, but didn’t say if it was Leon or a championship bout. One person it won’t be, though, is Conor McGregor, as White and Co. refuse to give in to Jorge’s money-making “ultimatums.”
That, or “Notorious” is currently in the witness star protection program.
Since White did reveale that a fight offer is coming, it could very well mean that Masvidal is up for the belt next — after Colby Covington — but doesn’t want to let the cat out of the bag just yet. But at this point, it all seems to be he said, he said, and only time will tell if Masvidal does indeed get his chance to face either Covington or Kamaru Usman next.
As for Edwards, at this point it seems his best option is to look elsewhere for a dance partner, which is rather disappointing since a fight between these two top 170-pounders has all the makings of fireworks.
