“The Immortal” hasn’t competed in the Octagon since a November 2017 win over Diego Sanchez, which snapped a three-fight skid.
Matt Brown is back.
The veteran UFC welterweight is set to meet Ben Saunders at UFC 245 on Dec. 14 in Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Friday.
Brown hasn’t fought since a December 2017 win over The Ultimate Fighter 1 winner Diego Sanchez. Brown talked about retiring after that fight, but ultimately opted to keep going. “The Immortal” was scheduled to face Carlos Condit in April 2018, but had to withdraw from the fight due to a torn ACL. Brown, 38, has been sidelined ever since.
Brown, who has been a pro MMA fighter since 2005 and made his UFC debut in 2008, is 2-5 over the past five years. The Sanchez win snapped a three-fight skid. Brown holds notable wins over Tim Means, Stephen Thompson, and Erick Silva.
Saunders, a veteran of the sport himself, has also not been doing so well as of late. “Killa B” is riding a three-fight skid, and all three losses ended inside the distance. Saunders’ lone win since early 2017 is a knockout of Jake Ellenberger.
UFC 245, which takes place at T-Mobile Arena, is expected to feature a women’s bantamweight title bout between champion Amanda Nunes and Germaine de Randamie. No official main event has been added to the card.
