UFC fighter Matt Riddle (5-2) has agreed to step in for an injured Mark Scanlon at the upcoming UFC on Versus 3 (aka UFC Live: Sanchez vs. Kampmann) event against welterweight Matt Brown (11-10).
MMAWeekly.com confirmed the matchup after MMA Scraps radio first reported Riddle would step in as a replacement.
Riddle is coming off a loss at last months UFC 124 event in Montreal. He was beaten by Canadian Sean Pierson who earned a unanimous decision in the fight. UFC President Dana White felt that the bout was deserving of the “Fight of the Night” bonus, but for the first time at a UFC event, fan voting decided the winner awarding the bonus to main event Georges St-Pierre and Josh Koscheck. White said he’d take care of both men for their work.
Riddle had won two straight before the loss to Pierson, scoring victories over DaMarques Johnson, via TKO at UFC on Versus 2, and Greg Soto at UFC 111 after Soto was disqualified after an illegal upkick. Riddle made his UFC debut as part of the cast for “The Ultimate Fighter” season 7 beating Dante Rivera at the shows Finale.
UFC on Versus 3 (aka UFC Live: Sanchez vs. Kampmann) will take place on March 3rd at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
