Fans of UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua were hoping for a quick recovery from his most recent knee injury but it looks like it’s going to be at least the middle of spring before we see him return. Dana White spoke on ESPN’s Sports Center and said that while they were looking at spring or early summer that the surgery was different than the other two previous surgeries in that Shogun had this one done in the United States by the “best doctor in the country.”
After a horrendous start in the UFC, losing to Forrest Griffin, Rua proved himself king of the light heavyweight heap with a convincing KO victory over previously undefeated Lyoto Machida. Look for Rua’s first fight to still be against Rashad Evans, though the UFC may pull Evans into active action sooner.
