Conor McGregor is once again in trouble with the authorities.
According to a recent report by AFP Sport, the former UFC champion was arrested earlier this week for an alleged incident of attempted sexual assault and sexual exhibition. “Notorious” was reportedly brought in for questioning and then released by police.
AFP Sport was able to obtain the following statement from the prosecutor’s office:
“Following a complaint filed on Sept. 10 denouncing acts that could be described as attempted sexual assault and sexual exhibition, Mr. Conor Anthony Mac Gregor (sic) was the subject of a hearing by the police.”
The 32-year-old fighter was expected to participate in a 24-hour charity water bike race this weekend alongside Princess Charlene of Monaco to help promote water safety. McGregor has been forced to withdraw from the event.
Here is a statement from Team McGregor obtained by TMZ Sports pertaining to the former UFC champ’s arrest and subsequent questioning:
“Conor McGregor vigorously denies any accusations of misconduct. He has been interviewed and released.”
McGregor, who announced his retirement from MMA earlier this year, has been in and out of trouble with authorities for the past several years. From stealing a fan’s cell phone to punching an elderly man inside an Irish pub, “Notorious” has struggled to stay of the headlines for his actions outside of the cage.
While McGregor has been released from police and denies all accusations, this is not something to take lightly. The MMA superstar simply hasn’t been able to avoid these type of situations throughout his professional career even after turning over a new leaf earlier this year.
