Conor McGregor’s social media fingers have been busy lately and the UFC superstar continued his verbal onslaught earlier tonight (Fri., Jan. 11, 2019) with an attack on rivals Khabib Nurmagomedov and Paulie Malignaggi.
McGregor has two completely different reasons to be throwing shade and both Khabib and Malignaggi. Nurmagomedov, who is currently the UFC lightweight champion of the world, recently defeated “Notorious” via fourth-round submission at UFC 229 this past October. The two produced 2.4 million PPV buys, but remain the biggest of rivals, especially after their insane post-fight brawl.
Malignaggi, on the other hand, began his feud with McGregor leading up to the Irishman’s historic boxing crossover against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2017. The former boxer helped McGregor train for “Money,” but after a highly talked about knockdown was released to the public the two fighters have been bickering back and forth ever since.
McGregor took it upon himself to lump Khabib and Malignaggi together as “broke bitches” earlier tonight with the following Instagram post:
“Let the record show. I like Paulie Malinaggi,” wrote McGregor. “Here is a confrontation between us regarding a picture he was upset about. Yes you heard that right. A picture. I told him here, to his face ‘Don’t be bitching.’ Common knowledge I would think for a fighting man. Don’t be a bitch, bitching. The same thing I said to Khabib at the end of round 3. My round. Don’t be bitching!Every single round bitching to the referee. He was even bitching in the fourth round from mount position. It baffled me. If anyone should have been saying anything to the referee, it should have been me in that 1st round. That round he held onto my legs for four minutes straight. With zero activity. But a fight is a fight who gives a fuck. Crying to the referee like a proper bitch. I was trying to dig my fingers into his Adams Apple. Many individuals in the fight business, I have learned lately, are absolute bitches.
“I know you’s are broke boys. But don’t be broke bitches.”
Maybe this had something to do with McGregor’s outburst. Or this.
McGregor, who just welcomed his second child to the world, may be willing to fight anybody who gets him his rematch with Khabib, but fight fans really don’t know what’s next for the UFC superstar. He has already been briefly linked to potential clashes with UFC contenders Dustin Poirier and Donald Cerrone, as well as throwing his own hat in the ring for a million-dollar showdown with Japanese sensation Tenshin Nasukawa, who was just destroyed by Mayweather in less than one round.
At this point, it doesn’t really matter who McGregor fights next. The former UFC champion has a knack for creating his own hype and doing enough social media publicity to break UFC PPV records left and right.
Still, this recent Instagram post is interesting to say the least. If McGregor can’t land a rematch with Khabib, maybe Malignaggi is next.
