The former two-division champion says his recovery is going well.

Conor McGregor still has a ways to go in his recovery but the ‘Notorious’ one already feels good enough to return to some degree of normalcy.

The former two-division champion has been recovering from the fractured tibia and fibula he sustained in his first-round technical knockout loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July. McGregor has made good progress so far as evidenced by the strides made in his physical therapy and recently provided an update to journalist Adam Glyn about where he is in his recovery.

“I feel like I could kick right now,” said McGregor. “I honestly feel like I could kick right now, but I just got to listen to the doctors and listen to people that are guiding me. That’s what I’ve done so far. I’ve committed myself to the work and I’m back on the feet. It feels so good to be back on the feet.”

McGregor has been adamant about following the advice of his doctors to ensure that he does not suffer a setback that would require additional time on the sidelines, but admitted that it has been a difficult process. The Irishman said that he was greatly affected by not being able to do normal things, such as being active with his children and that took a toll on him mentally.

“I was upset for a little while,” said McGregor. “It’s not been easy. There has been a few ups and downs on this. It’s probably one of the wildest things that’s ever happened to me in my life. It’s not been full smooth sailing, but I got through it. I’ve had my family [and] my close team by my side and we’re getting there. Still a long way. I don’t want to get too ahead of myself. Like I said, I feel like I could kick now. I’m not advised to kick yet, but I’m going to get back, man. You think a broken leg [or] broken bone is going to stop me? Think again.”

McGregor has aimed for a return to the Octagon as early as next year and would like it to be against Poirier, who he has now lost two consecutive fights to.
