Daniel Cormier has responded to Conor McGregor’s bizarre rants against him.

Conor McGregor was previously known for his witty quips and quotes, but has been criticized as of late for having his smack talk and self-promotion skills devolve and deteriorate into just uncreative, ugly and unentertaining insults. Apart from issuing threats and going after people’s families, he also has recently targeted Daniel Cormier for such a tame and minor comment.

Wednesday night, he continued his bizarre tweet-and-delete spree against the commentator and retired former champion. McGregor called out the time Cormier got “drunk” doing his media duties, seemingly trying to get him fired from his UFC and ESPN jobs.

“Daniel Cormier is a fat mess. Getting into worse condition by the day. God bless him,” McGregor wrote, in a string of tweets that have since been deleted. “Showing up drunk at media events the very day before he was in the booth calling my fight. Drunk at a media event working? The day before being a commentator on the biggest fight in history?”

As part of the UFC’s weigh-in shows that typically have very random and funny segments, Cormier chugged a beer with fellow broadcaster Laura Sanko. Cormier then had a brief media Q&A immediately after.

McGregor, who on multiple occasions conducted press duties under the influence, called Cormier’s actions a “sackable offense” as part of his now deleted tweets.

“It is a sackable offense for a commentator to be drunk at press work the day before commentating the big fight. Dreadful! Get it together,” McGregor wrote. “Belching in the mic at a press event and an all wtf. The day before commenting the big fight? Is this guy serious? Disgraceful.

“Your back situations just mental too. Your weight and way of life is abysmal. And now drunk at work the day before you commentate a McGregor event? Pitiful. Congrats Jon on his head kick KO anniversary over you. Good always defeats evil? Wasn’t sure you were evil. Fakes.”

Cormier has also responded to the recent insults on his ESPN show, and it’s where he roasted McGregor. Apart from showing screenshots of multiple checked kicks that McGregor denied happening, Cormier also sent him a message.

“So McGregor, listen to me, bud. Stop worrying about me. Don’t worry about Daniel Cormier, don’t worry about the things I’m saying,” Cormier said in response. “Don’t worry about how I’m dressing and how I’m looking. Don’t do that. Worry about the dudes that keep beating your ass every time you go into the Octagon!

“That’s what you should be worried about,” Cormier said with a laugh. “I’m not the guy you have to worry about fighting. I’m done. I’m retired. I’m living my best life. You need to worry about trying to beat the guys you fight against. Don’t worry. Get off the internet! Get off the internet! I’m over here just doing my job. So McGregor, fall back.

Cormier also addressed the specific comments that McGregor took offense with, while outlining and explaining pretty common scenarios where fighters go after media members for doing their jobs.

“When I said it was a ‘cry for help’ I did it with no ill intent,” Cormier explained. “This is just me saying find some people who are willing to step up and say ‘hey man, let’s get everything right.’

“But the reality is, I don’t need to be friends with Conor McGregor, so I don’t really care what he thinks of me personally” he said. “I’m going to continue to do my job. Where he deserves praise, he’ll get praise. Where he deserves to be critiqued, he will get critiqued.

“But once again, all those kicks (from McGregor) were landed in about a minute. For the last four minutes of that round, it was Dustin Poirier beating up Conor McGregor. Let’s not forget what was happening in the fight. Let’s not get too distracted on the other stuff he was talking about.”
