“There’s history with Tony. So, I’d like a bout with Tony at some stage.”

Add Tony Ferguson to the list of potential opponents for Conor McGregor’s next bout in the Octagon.

Although McGregor’s number one priority is a championship rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is expected to defend his lightweight title against Ferguson at UFC 249, ‘The Notorious’ claims to have a ‘history’ with ‘El Cucuy’ and believes it would make for an exciting stylistic match-up.

Speaking to MMA Junkie ahead of his headlining welterweight bout against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246, McGregor explained why he’d like to fight Ferguson at ‘some stage’ in the future.

“I think regardless of the result I think I should probably face both of these men (Nurmagomedov and Ferguson),” McGregor said at the UFC 246 media day on Thursday. “I would like to face both of these men. I’d like to face Tony Ferguson.

“I’ve had a history with Tony, right? We managed Tony (at Paradigm). He was well looked after. We had him one of the highest paid non-champion in the game. There’s history with Tony. So, I’d like a bout with Tony at some stage.”

Ferguson left Paradigm Sports to sign with Ballengee Group last year, claiming that Paradigm demonstrated favouritism for McGregor and prevented a McGregor-Ferguson matchup from taking place in 2019,

UFC 246: McGregor vs. Cerrone takes place later tonight, Jan. 18 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
