To say that Maximum Fighting Championship president Mark Pavelich is mad would be an understatement. MFC 34: Total Recall was supposed to feature a lightweight title bout between Mukai Maromo and Adam Lynn. However, Lynn weighed in at 156.6 pounds and will now be forced to give up 20 percent of his purse along with losing a shot at the belt.
Pavelich took to his Tout page to release a video expressing his frustration over the weigh-in drama.
“My heart’s broken today. They missed weight again for the lightweight championship. So that’s it we’re going to have no more lightweight division. It’s finished,” Pavelich said in the video.
The “it’s finished” line was accompanied by a throat slashing gesture to indicate his desire to sever ties with the 155-pound division in the MFC.
Pavelich’s mention of a fighter missing weight in the division again is in reference to Antonio McKee, perhaps one of the most well-known fighters in the promotion, being stripped of the title after coming in overweight by seven pounds for his bout against Brian Cobb at MFC 32. Cobb himself was a half-pound over the 155-pound limit, and both men were handed their walking papers following the event.
It may be an overreaction, as a couple other fighters missed weight for the event as well. Luke Harris weighed in at 187 pounds and Cody Krahn came in at 194.4 pounds.
The main event rematch between Maromo and Lynn will still occur, except now it will be a three-round non-title bout. Also on the card are former UFC fighter Tim Hague, top prospect Dhiego Lima, and Ultimate Fighter 11 participant Joseph Henle.
