Michael Bisping is set to take part in the main event bout for UFC 120 against Yoshihiro Akiyama on October 16 at the O2 Arena in London but he’s not forgetting about what number one contender Chael Sonnen said recently. Bisping really does have a lot of haters, and it seems that he’s certainly a love him or hate him guy, so it only seems normal that other middleweights would come after him, including Sonnen and recently Patrick Cote as well as UK fans who aren’t happy with UFC 120’s main event bout. Bisping recently addressed his thoughts on Sonnen, via Mirror:
Recently, he’s looking phenomenal. I mean, (in) his last three fights he’s been very dominating and he’s been great” says Bisping. “I think personally he’s a bit of a tool to be honest. Okay, he’s great at what he does and I’ve definitely laughed my arse off at some of his comments. I think he’s great, he’s awesome at promoting a fight, he really is, but he’s delusional and he’s so far up his own arse it’s unbelievable”.
“I’d love to fight Chael Sonnen” he continues. “He said on MMA Live that if I ever address him in public again that he’ll bury me where I stand. It’s big words and I take offence. I mean I’m laughing now, but he’s got a cheek to go on international television and say that.
“That’s basically threatening me. He’s not saying he’ll fight me in the cage, but he said he’s going to bury me where I stand, which obviously, I take issue with ever so slightly. But whatever, leave him to it”.
With a victory over Sexyama it would certainly move Bisping closer to an eventual shot at the title, but the top is getting somewhat crowded with Vitor Belfort, Yushin Okami, Chael Sonnen and others still waiting for a chance at gold. With Belfort vs. Okami set that will clear up who will fight the winner of Sonnen Anderson II but there’s little doubt that if Bisping pulls off the win he’ll be a fight or two away from the shot.
