UFC lightweight veteran Michael Chiesa is expected to make his return to the Octagon this April.

For fight fans eager to see Michael Chiesa make his UFC return, they won’t have to wait that much longer.

“The Maverick” tweeted on Sunday that a fight announcement is nearing, and he’ll be on the UFC 223 card in Brooklyn, New York on April 7th.

Chiesa (14-3) has not fought since losing by rear-naked choke to Kevin Lee in the UFC Fight Night: Oklahoma City main event last June. There was some controversy over Mario Yamasaki’s decision to stop the fight even though Chiesa didn’t tap, but Yamasaki deemed that Chiesa was out, so it goes down as a technical submission. Chiesa’s subsequent appeal proved unsuccessful. The Ultimate Fighter season 15 winner is #9 in the current UFC lightweight rankings, and holds notable wins over Beneil Dariush, Jim Miller, Francisco Trinaldo, and Al Iaquinta.

UFC 223 is shaping up to be a big night for the lightweight division, with Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov squaring off for the Dana White-defined “undisputed” title, while Al Iaquinta is set to fight Paul Felder on the undercard.
