A heavyweight bout between UFC veteran Ed ‘Short Fuse’ Herman (19-7) and sophomore Clifford Starks (8-0) appears to be in the works for February’s UFC 143 event in Nevada.
News of the bout was announced by MMAWeekly.com who confirmed verbal agreements with sources close to the fight.
UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit is scheduled to take place on February 4, 2012 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada and features an interim welterweight title bout between Nick Diaz vs. Carlos Condit.
Herman has won two straight, with a 3-1 record over his past four, and a 6-5 record overall in the UFC. ‘Short Fuse’ had his last fight in August at the UFC on Versus 5 show, submitting Kyle Noke with a heel hook at the Milwaukee event. Previous to that, he stopped Tim Credeur via first round TKO at the “TUF 13 Finale” in June. Before that, Herman had been away from the cage for almost two years due to a bad knee injury which occurred at UFC 102 against Aaron Simpson.
Starks made his Octagon debut in October, joining the UFC as a short-notice replacement for an injured Brad Tavares at UFC 137. Coming in on two weeks notice, Starks was able to win a unanimous decision over Dustin Jacoby at the Las Vegas event. That victory was his eight straight win, which now includes three career wins by knockout, one by submission, and four by decision.
