Late Tuesday night, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced a middleweight bout which will headline the upcoming UFC on FUEL TV 4 event, pitting Mark ‘The Filipino Wrecking Machine’ Muñoz (12-2) against undefeated Chris ‘All American’ Weidman (8-0).

The announcement was made at UFC.com.

Powerhouse middleweight wrestlers Chris “All American” Weidman and Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Munoz will battle in the five-round main event of UFC on FUEL TV, the just-announced July 11 fight night. The news was announced on the April 24 edition of FUEL TV’s UFC Tonight.

In January, the undefeated Weidman replaced Munoz on the UFC on FOX fight card on less than two weeks’ notice when Munoz was injured and forced to withdraw from his bout against Chael Sonnen. Michael Bisping, who’d been slated to fight Demian Maia at that same event, was tapped to fight Sonnen instead, and Weidman stepped in against Maia. Weidman defeated Maia by unanimous decision; Munoz did the same against Maia last June at UFC 131.

UFC on FUEL TV 4 is expected to take place on July 11 in a city to-be-determined.

Muñoz has won four straight and is coming off a second round TKO victory over Chris Leben last November at UFC 138. Muñoz had been scheduled to face Chael Sonnen last January at the UFC on FOX 2 event in a No. 1 contender bout but had to bow out over a nagging injury to his elbow. He was replaced by Michael Bisping at the event.

Weidman is now 4-0 in the Octagon since debuting with the promotion in March 2011. His last bout was at the UFC on FOX 2 show, stepping in to replace Bisping versus Demian Maia and winning that bout by unanimous decision, all on short notice. Weidman’s previous wins include victories against Tom Lawlor, Jesse Bongfeldt, and Alessio Sakara.
