By now you have seen the videos of that United passenger, David Dao, getting dragged off his United Airlines flight. It is “Black Mirror” levels of ghoulish, of course, and a symptom of wider problems within the industry. Because United and other airlines have a near monopoly, boycotting them is difficult. The solution to overbooking and generally treating customers like trash is more likely to come from a political solution that addresses root causes rather than a straight-forward boycott.
The Gracies are geniuses of marketing. They are quick to pick up on trending topics, and their breakdowns frequently feature a wide variety of viral clips ranging from serious to comical. While they do acknowledge the seriousness of this situation, their comical Brazilian-Jiu-Jitsu-is-the-answer solutions seem a little exploitative here, and obviously impractical. Don’t helicopter armbar a security guard or a cop. It will only make things worse.
Derrick Lewis is, of course, up with the memes, and there are a lot of memes, because people are DRAGGING United for this, as they should.
