Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

For a retired fighter, Georges St. Pierre sure does get a lot of potential fights thrown his way.

While on Chael Sonnen’s podcast, the pair discussed the potential of taking a second fight with Nick Diaz or battling the surging Nate Diaz. Nate Diaz is coming off a major win right now at 170 lbs., but the elder Diaz hasn’t competed in nearly four years, making the talk seem a bit random. However, St. Pierre’s grudge match with Diaz drew the highest number of pay-per-view (PPV) buys of the many events headlined by “GSP,” and the Diaz name has never been bigger. It could certainly be a profitable night for the French Canadian, who has already proven the match up favorable once before.

Nevertheless, “Rush” is largely disinterested in the bout and explained why (transcription via MMAFighting):

“Look, I know he doesn’t like me and he looks to get me all of the time, but I genuinely like the guy to tell you the truth. If I were to see him in a situation of trouble and I would be the only person that could help him, I would go help him. And I don’t think it would be the other way around. I don’t know what to say. He’s one of my biggest adversaries. Even if we only fought once, we’re kind of very different personalities and I think that’s why the clash of the personalities makes it very interesting. But I’m retired now, I don’t want to go back and fight Nate Diaz. I wish him the best of luck in his pursuit of the title, if that’s what he wanted to do. But I don’t want to fight his brother Nick Diaz. It’s not interesting for me. There’s nothing I can gain from that. The risk is not worth the reward.”

As usual, St. Pierre has a good read on the situation. Nate Diaz is after different foes, whether that’s a fan-friendly brawl with fellow star Jorge Masvidal or a trilogy with his own nemesis, Conor McGregor. If Nick Diaz is to be judged by his Instagram, the Stockton slugger has done little but drink and smoke at Las Vegas bars in recent years. He seems thoroughly retired and out of the game, unlikely to fight professionally again. Like St. Pierre, he more than earned his retirement!

Realistically, St. Pierre seems done unless the UFC backtracks and offers him a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov at the terms he desires.
