Welcome to Midnight Mania!

The past two days have seen an escalating online feud that saw McGregor mock Khabib’s wife and her traditional religious head garment, Khabib call Conor a rapist, and Conor speculate that perhaps under the thick veil, Khabib had married a goat. Khabib’s manager tweeted that McGregor didn’t realize he was insulting 1.5 billion Muslims. Conor eventually deleted several of his earlier tweets and posted this message of unity instead, perhaps after Dana White and Company stepped in to try to enforce something resembling the UFC code of conduct again through back channels.

I want to move forward, with my fans of all faiths and all backgrounds.

All faiths challenge us to be our best selves.

It is one world and one for all

Now see you in the Octagon.

Whether mostly a PR move or a genuine acknowledgement that many of his comments crossed some lines, McGregor’s message of unity with one another can be appreciated. He still ended with ‘see you in the Octagon’, which makes one wonder why he bothered to announce a retirement if he’s going to keep picking fights like this. He might as well be Michael Scott shouting “I declare bankruptcy” for all it means.

It is also worth noting that Khabib’s tweet alleging that Conor is a rapist- based on very real sexual assault allegations against the Irish star- is still up at the time of writing.

Insomnia

Garry Tonon himself commented and solved the mystery: it was the back of his cup.

Max Holloway recalls being just a scared young kid fighting Dustin Poirier in his UFC debut. It’s fascinating which fighters grow to become greats and which equally gifted fighters do not. Poirier and Holloway have both surpassed all expectations in overcoming career adversity.

Tony Ferguson posted some self-affirmation. Hopefully he makes it back alright.

I must regretfully report Sage Northcutt has turned to violence.

This was posted by a parody account, but it is pretty funny to imagine nonetheless.

When I saw it, I winced

Amazing rhythm

Retired UFC fighter Brad Pickett is killing it in bareknuckle boxing.

Random Land

I don’t have anything for this tonight except to watch ‘The Legend of Cocaine Island’ on Netflix. I have a feeling a lot of y’all would enjoy it.
