Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

So… Mike Perry is really excited to be able to say the N-word. He posted this tweet after going live with welterweight champion Tyron Woodley on Instagram. Perry, who says the N-word is in his vocabulary from growing up in Flint, Michigan, recently took a DNA test that found 2% sub-saharan African genetics. He says this gives him a pass to use the word.

Woodley, though? He doesn’t mind. He thinks it’s funny. He did take some time to explain the difference between a racially-motivated slur and Perry’s use of the word… it’s evident from the reference to the recent Kendrick Lamar concert that they don’t completely agree on the use of the word.

Woodley, who is from Ferguson, Missouri, has previously pointed out discrepancies in treatment from fans and the UFC due to his race.

It shouldn’t need to be said, but hundreds of years of an American racial caste system, only officially ended fifty years ago, is the reason the n-word is considered an extremely offensive racial slur. As a current resident of the American South, I can confirm that, contrary to what I naively believed growing up, plenty of white people still hold the same deeply racist views towards black people their parents held. And, of course, the socio-economic status of black people has never caught up to white people, who have a median net worth 10 times that of black families.

Perry, a professional fighter, is right that most people won’t do anything when he uses the word. That approach is not recommended for the average white person. Don’t try this at home, kids.

Cub Swanson vs. Renato Moicano is a fantastic fight and a deserved crack at a big name opponent for Moicano.

Mark Hunt vs. Aleksei Oleinik, after Werdum was suspended for his USADA test fail, has McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh asking the pressing questions.
