Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Valentina Shevchenko doesn’t buy Nicco Montano’s story of injury and poor health. She usually doesn’t take opponents talking, all that seriously, but she says she will call someone out if she sees them as being wrong. That’s definitely how she sees this situation.

Via MMAJunkie.com:

“I just don’t like when people do something wrong, and when they say something wrong,” she said. “I just don’t like it. I don’t take it too personal, because to win the fight I have to be cool. It doesn’t matter to me what they say, because I have so much experience. Opponents they talk so many different words about me, and I just know how to manage it.

“But when I write a (social media) post, I just do it if a person is wrong. If she’s doing something wrong, I just say, ‘Hey, stop. You’re doing it wrong.’ Or if you’re thinking you’re smarter than everyone, or you think people are fools, no, they’re not. They exactly understand what’s happening now.”

It’s easy to see why Shevchenko is frustrated. A recent title challenger at bantamweight, she dropped to flyweight and won a lopsided tune-up match in her flyweight debut; clearly one of the most skilled fighters at any weight, much less a new and shallow division, she is eager to get her shot at the title, a bout in which she will undoubtedly be the heavy favorite. Nicco Montano, the most anonymous UFC champion, won her belt in a little-seen TUF finale against Roxanne Modafferi, and hasn’t defended it since.

Shevchenko thinks the reason Nicco hasn’t signed the bout agreement is self-evident. But she also doesn’t think the champion can avoid a bout with her indefinitely.

“You could have taken this fight so many times,” Shevchenko. “And you didn’t. Why? There is a reason why – just say it.”

“We’ll see what Nicco will do,” she said. “If she’s thinking she’s Conor McGregor, she’s not.”
