In an epic performance, former Strikeforce Women’s Champion added another gold belt to her trophy closet on Saturday night, as she choked out Holly Holm to become only the third UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion in history.
After nearly choking out Holm in the second round on multiple occasions, but “The Preacher’s Daughter” managed to hang on and survive.
From there, Holm would get back in control of the action only to find herself in deep trouble again in the fifth and final round.
Trouble she would not manage to escape this time.
Miesha “Cupcake” Tate got Holm’s back and once again secured a rear-naked choke. Holm, in an attempt to escape threw Miesha over her head and while she landed awkwardly, Tate held onto the choke and Holm eventually went completely out.
And there you have it. We have a new UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion.
What this means for “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey’s return remains to be seen. Does she prefer getting the win back from Holm, or her title back from another rival of hers?
Only time will tell!
