UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate seems to be up for whatever the UFC wants to do regarding her next fight. She could fight Ronda Rousey for a third time or she could give ex-UFC champ Holly Holm a rematch following their fight at UFC 196, which Tate won by fifth-round rear-naked choke.
Tate told ESPN’s The Dan Le Batard Show that nothing with Rousey is set in stone.
“I don’t know if [the Rousey fight] is even confirmed yet,” Tate said. “I know everyone is so excited, and everyone wants to know what’s next, but for me in this moment, I can’t get ahead of myself. As far as the next matchup, I still have to talk to my management and the UFC and nothing has been confirmed. I don’t really know what’s next. There are a lot of tough girls in this division, and I don’t know when I’d be fighting next or anything.”
Rousey has beaten Tate twice. Rousey beat Tate in March of 2012 by first-round armbar then in December of 2013 at UFC 168; Rousey submitted Tate with an armbar in the third round.
On the flip side, Holm is doing fine following her first loss of her career and said during a recent interview that she is heartbroken but ready to get back in the gym.
“I’m doing fine. I’m healthy, I’m good. I could train tomorrow,” Holm told JacksonWink Raw. “As far as my heart, I’m heartbroken. It’s a sour ending to UFC 196, but I’m ready to get back.”
Holm then explained that she wants a rematch with Tate.
“I want a rematch. Miesha’s been around a long time. She’s a tough champion so I’m sure she’ll want to take the fight so let’s do it.”
“I haven’t watched it, but I’ve replayed [the fight] in my head 1000 times,” said Holm. “Not just the last round but the second round, as well. It’s obviously something I need to work on. There’s a lot of things I wasn’t doing right, things that I know better, already.
“I gave you a shot, give me a shot. I’m not going to let you choke me out again.”
UFC President Dana White has already confirmed that Rousey vs. Tate 3 is set for later this year so it appears that Holm will have to wait to get her rematch.
