Former WEC bantamweight champ Miguel Angel Torres (40-5) has signed a three-fight contract with the Las Vegas based MMA World Series of Fighting promotion, which has it’s first event scheduled for November 3, 2012 at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino.
News of Torres’ signing was confirmed by MMAFighting.com on Sunday who spoke with promotion senior executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz.
Torres had been scheduled to appear at a Titan Fighting Championships show on November 2, but will instead appear on the WSOF card instead.
The former WEC title holder was released by the UFC for a second time in less than a year. He was released last December for a controversial Twitter message, and despite getting back into the good graces of UFC president Dana White, was cut a second time. His release comes months after a knockout loss to Michael McDonald last April at UFC 145.
The WSOF promotion promises to bring “bringing some of the world’s top MMA fighters together for the tournament of champions…Fighters will compete in 5 weight classes ranging from 155 to 265 pounds. The tournament will start and finish within a 12 month period and 5 champions will be crowned.”
The WSOF website lists veterans such as Roger Huerta, John Gunderson, Brian Cobb and Ronys Torres as some if it’s already signed lightweight fighters.
