After smashing UFC veteran Jake Ellenberger via first-round knockout at UFC Fight Night 108 this past April, rising welterweight prospect Mike Perry is looking to climb the divisional ladder as quickly as possible. The hard-hitting youngster, who has won all 10 of his career victories by knockout, is already lobbying for a future showdown with legendary welterweight brawler Matt Brown.
Here is what “Platinum” had to say about “The Immortal” during a recent interview with Flo Combat:
“Anybody that is above me in the rankings. Anybody that makes sense. I was tweeting earlier about Matt Brown being ahead of me. People like that fight. They think that it will be a good fight, but I don’t think they know what the hell they are talking about. I would smash that man. He’s the immortal. How many lives does he have left? Here kitty, kitty. How many lives you got left? I think he is done. I think he is on his way out. If they want me to beat him, I will take that.”
Brown, 36, has produced a 1-5 record in his last six Octagon appearances. Despite the fact that “The Immortal” hasn’t had his hand raised since submitting Tim Means back in 2015, he’s a tremendous test for an up-and-coming striker like Perry. Before getting finished by Ellenberger and Donald Cerrone last year, Brown had never been stopped by strikes.
As long as Brown is healthy entering the summer months, fight fans may very well get to witness one of the most exciting scraps the UFC welterweight division has to offer.
