Mike Perry Downed 100 Tequila Shots With Jon Jones Because Sobriety Is Overrated

I know 100 shots of tequila sounds like a lot of booze to the average mixed martial arts (MMA) fan, but to former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, it’s merely a warm up.

I know 100 shots of tequila sounds like a lot of booze to the average mixed martial arts (MMA) fan, but to former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, it’s merely a warm up.

Just don’t tell this Negative Nancy.

That was a sobering lesson Mike Perry learned when “Platinum” went out drinking with “Bones” after relocating to the Jackson-Winkeljohn gym in Albuquerque, New Mexico, an experience that left the welterweight brawler drowning in triple digits.

MMA Junkie recaps the night of “100 shots of tequila” (via JW RAW Podcast):

“He kept buying drinks, man. I feel like he was buying shots and would look at me, and I would take the shot, and then he’d be like (throwing back the drink).”

After going shot-for-shot, though, Jones apparently decided a change of strategy was warranted. The next night they went out, Perry said a gravely-voiced Jones told him, “We ain’t gotta go as hard as we did last night.”

“I was like, ‘Okay,’” Perry said. “He bought me a shot of something, and I was like, ‘Alright, I’ll take this one. Don’t buy me another one.’”

I’m sure Commissioner Martha Shen-Urquidez is not impressed.

Perry is gearing up for what could be an early contender for “Fight of the Night” when he collides with welterweight brawler Yancy Medeiros at the upcoming UFC 226 pay-per-view (PPV) event next month in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As for Jones, he’s still riding the pine until United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) can figure out what to do with his failed drug test from last July. If and when that happens, “Bones” will still need to clear this hurdle.
