A pair of welterweights looks as if they’ll meet in the Octagon this July at UFC 162 in fighters Mike Pierce (16-5) and David ‘Daudi’ Mitchell (12-2).
MMAjunkie.com broke the news Friday morning after confirming the fight with sources close to the bout.
With five bouts already announced for the main card the match between Pierce and Mitchell is certain to appear on the preliminary card of the event, most likely the television portion.
UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman is expected to take place on July 6, 2013 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pierce has won three straight and is 4-1 in his last five matches. His most recent win came in December in Australia at UFC on FX 6 with a decision over Seth Baczynski. His other wins in his current run include a knockout of Aaron Simpson at UFC on FX 5 and a decision against Carlos Eduardo Rocha at UFC on FX 3.
Mitchell is just 1-2 with the UFC picking up his first win with the top promotion last January after defeating Simeon Thoresen by decision at UFC on FOX 6. The two defeats, the first two of his career, were both by decision and were against Paulo Thiago at UFC 134, and to TJ Waldburger at UFN 22.
