This would be one of the weirdest fight bookings in years if it comes to fruition.
Nothing says combat sports fun like a couple of guys in their 50’s throwing down, right? Well, if longtime promoter and manager Monte Cox has something to say about it, that’s exactly what the Quad Cities are going to get when the whole coronavirus pandemic blows over.
Cox, who ran Extreme Challenge events and managed Pat Miletich for a long time, told Bruce Buffer on his podcast that he was looking to set up a kickboxing fight between the UFC Hall of Famer and former boxing champion Michael Nunn.
Miletich, 52, is a former UFC welterweight champ and trained multiple other world champions for many years. He has been working as a commentator since then, and hasn’t competed in combat sports since 2008.
Nunn, 57, is a former IBF and WBA champion who just finished up a 16-and-a-half-year prison sentence for cocaine distribution. He hasn’t fought since 2002. He is originally from Davenport, Iowa, and Cox stated that the fight could be a big draw in the area (transcribed by MMA Junkie):
“(There’s) one big show I’m working on,” Cox said. “You’ve probably heard rumors of this, but Pat Miletich is going to fight again. He’s fighting Michael Nunn, a great boxer. It’s an incredible (fight). This thing will draw. We could draw 7,000-plus in the Quad Cities. They are the two greatest professional athletes or fighters out of that area.”
So – yeah, that might happen. Not sure what else to say.
