Morning Report: Brendan Schaub believes Travis Browne ‘100%’ made a mistake leaving Greg Jackson to join Edmond Tarverdyan

Discussing the UFC’s heavyweight division Saturday night on his podcast, commentator Joe Rogan asked Brendan Schaub for his take on his next opponent recently switching camps.

Schaub faces Travis Browne Dec. 6 at UFC 181. After dropping a five-round decision to Fabricio Wedum in April, Browne left famed trainer Greg Jackson to begin working with women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey’s head coach, Edmond Tarverdyan.

“It can be good,” said Schaub. “Listen, I came to [Los Angeles] and switched things up. Obviously, I know Ronda very well and I know that camp pretty well. I’m not going to go into detail but I think it’s a great thing for me that he’s training there. I’ll put it like that. I think it’s a good thing for me.”

Rogan immeditaltey called Schaub on the comment, arguing he would have replied the same way ‘even if he didn’t mean it.’

“I promise I wouldn’t,” said Schaub. “I just wouldn’t say s**t. I’m 100 percent, dead serious.”

Asked by Eddie Bravo if he believed Browne made a mistake by joining Tarverdyan, Schaub simply replied, “100 percent.”

“I don’t give a f**k. I’m not worried about him. I’m worried about me.”

Schaub also denied that he had been given any indication of Browne’s training through the gym’s contacts.

Rogan then asked Schaub if he believed Browne’s move was brought about by Alistair Overeem joining the group at Jackson’s MMA in New Mexico.

“No, not at all,” said Schaub. “Travis beat [Overeem] and will never fight him again. I don’t think it had anything to do with it. They would never do that. There’s a chance, yes. Rankings don’t mean s**t, but the chance of them ever fighting again and doing rematches is not good unless you’re at a real high level.”

Fortunes changed for five. Dave Meltzer explains how Mark Hunt, Myles Jury, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Miesha Tate and Kyoji Horiguchi move forward following the UFC’s fight night event in Japan.

Options. Chuck Mindenhall wonders who in the UFC’s heavyweight division could be next for Mark Hunt. ‘It’s complicated. The UFC heavyweight picture is always that way. But who knew that the recyclables — Arlovski, Hunt, Rothwell — would be the ones holding the paintbrushes?’

‘Uneducated.’ Cris Cyborg says Ronda Rousey is ‘running away’ from her. ‘If she was so sure about everything she says, she would have already accepted to fight me like she accepted to fight Gina Carano at any weight, fight Cain Velasquez, (Floyd) Mayweather. Grow up, Ronda.’

Wandy retires. Former PRIDE great Wanderlei Silva announced his retirement via a video message to fans, blasting the UFC on his way out.

Silva cut, Rumble suspended. Thiago Silva has once again been cut by the UFC and Anthony Johnson has been suspended pending an investigation of alleged domestic abuse.
