Morning Report: Jon Jones responds to Daniel Cormier’s pledge to ‘put a bullseye’ and ‘grind an elbow into that cut’

After UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones very publicly declared he had suffered a nasty cut ahead of their title bout at UFC 178, Daniel Cormier chided Jones for revealing the incident.

September 27th I’m gonna put so many of these on ur face @jonnybones. I can’t wait everyday I’m dreaming and thinking of you. And I’m gonna take u down and grind my elbow into that cut you got today. Put a bullseye on that thing. Some things should remain private. DC

Jones responded to Cormier, saying he’s heard it all before.

‘His hands are too fast.’ ‘His Jiu Jitsu is too good.’ ‘His wrestling is too good.’ ‘He’s too fast.’ ‘Too experienced.’ ‘Can’t beat his Karate.’ ‘Can’t beat his timing.’ I’ve literally heard everything. Everything.

Later, Jones reminded fans why he’s considered the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the sport.

I can’t wait to see the look on Daniel’s face once he realizes that I’m nothing like Dan Henderson or Patrick Cummings

UFC 178 takes place Sept. 27 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

FANPOST OF THE DAY

Today’s Fanpost of the Day comes via Davis8185.

How Cormier’s injured knee actual helps him

Daniel Cormier, took the gamble of prolonging surgery on his injured knee with the hopes of getting a title shot against light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Cormier’s gamble paid off because Alexander Gustafsson had to pull out of his fight against Jon Jones due to injury. The rematch between Jones and Gustafsson, was one of the most anticipated fights left in the 2014 calendar because of how competitive the first fight was. However, with all the trash talk and bad blood between Cormier and Jones, this fight could be better than Jones-Gustafsson 2.

Obviously, Cormier is not going to be 100% going in the Jones fight but this could be good news for Cormier. If Cormier ends up getting the short end of the stick against Jones but puts a good performance, Cormier could blame his knee and talk his way back to a title shot fairly quickly.
