Morning Report: With tears in his eyes, Andrei Arlovski says knocking out Travis Browne ‘felt like punching my mother or father’

Following a brutal first round opposite friend and former training partner Travis Browne at UFC 187, Andrei Arlovski has some complicated feelings on his TKO win.

“Of course it’s nice to have a victory, but deep inside … bad feelings,” Arlovski said this week on his live chat. “I feel like it’s exactly what I said, like I punched my mother or father … my brother. Victory is victory, of course. I’m happy I made some money. Hopefully it’s the first and last time I fight my friend.”

Literally crying, Arlovski explained his brief post-fight interaction with Browne.

“I told him, ‘Listen, brother Travis. I’m sorry to whoop your ass.’ He’s a real gentleman guy. I’m talking right now and have tears in my eyes.”

Browne wished Arlovski well just before he was pulled away to speak with Joe Rogan in the Octagon.

“Don’t ever f***ing say you’re sorry,” Browne told Arlovski. “You understand? I love you man. You better go get that strap now, you hear me? It’s your job.”

“Listen, I’m not a 20, 25 year-old guy who doesn’t give a f**k about friendship,” Arlovski says. “Who just thinks about money. With experience you have different priorities in your life. Friendship for me, right now, is more important than being on top.”

FANPOST OF THE DAY

Today’s Fanpost of the Day comes via tedbear.

What Kind of Market Did The UFC Create?

The Market Problem: Selling Lemons to Fighters

Donald Cerrone makes good money. His 2014 earnings from the UFC alone likely total about $650,000 (disclosed and inferred paydays from four fights with win bonuses and three performance/knockout of the night bonuses). However, is this amount fair? It is hard to say because neither we, the fans, nor “Cowboy” (I presume) have unfettered access to UFC balance sheets. While we cannot deny that Zuffa’s UFC diligently cultivated, heck, even created, the market in which Cerrone earns a nice living, we also cannot deny that the UFC clearly has the upper hand in negotiating fighter contracts.
