The light heavyweight debut of former Strikeforce heavyweight Chad Griggs will have to wait after an injury to ‘The Grave Digger’ has forced him out of his upcoming UFC on FOX 4 bout.
Stepping in for Griggs will be undefeated prospect Wagner ‘Caldeirao’ Prado (8-0) who faces a tough challenge in his UFC debut when he meets Phil ‘Mr. Wonderful’ Davis (9-1) of the upcoming Los Angeles event.
News of the change was announced by MMAWeekly.com earlier on Wednesday after the website confirmed the news with Prado’s management team, AMR Group.
UFC on Fox 4 is expected to take place on August 4, 2012 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The bout between Davis and Prado is likely to appear on the main card of the FOX television broadcasted event.
Davis suffered the first loss of his career last January at the second FOX event, having suffered a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Rashad Evans in a No. 1 contender bout. ‘Mr. Wonderful’ had won five straight in the Octagon, competing just once in 2011 defeating Antônio Rogério Nogueira by decision at UFN 24.
Prado signed with the UFC earlier this year and will now get a chance to show his stuff this August. ‘Caldeirao’ fought earlier this month at a Max Fight 13 event, earning a 20-second knockout of opponent Aldo Sultao. So far the Brazilian has seven finishes in eight wins, with all of those stoppages coming via (T)KO.
