Bellator’s recently announced Welterweight Grand Prix is shaking things up at 170 pounds. Michael “Venom” Page is excited about his prospects and unconcerned that Paul “Semtex” Daley isn’t in the tournament.
At a recent press conference, Bellator MMA announced the start of its Welterweight Grand Prix for 2018, a 10-man bracket that kicks off September 29th with a rematch between Douglas Lima and Andrey Koreshkov. Other announced participants are reigning champion Rory MacDonald, Lorenz Larkin, Ed Ruth, Jon Fitch, Neiman Gracie, Yaroslav Amosov and Michael “Venom” Page.
There will be two “play in” fights including one man yet to be determined. While speculation has pointed toward Paul “Semtex” Daley as the tenth man, Page told MMA Fighting that he’d be an irrelevant addition.
“Like, he kinda sucks. He’s a person that’s done well in the past. If he ends up in the tournament I’d love to be the first person to kick him back out. You saw his last performance. He’s a bit of a wild cat, does his own thing, but for me I’m in the tournament and that makes sense.”
Daley got wind of these remarks and had a thing or two to say of his own.
Today Paul #Semtex Daley assured me he’s still up for meeting @Michaelpage247 “I have every intention of being in the tournament, I’m pretty sure that Michael Page will be my first fight, just hope we can get the deal done” pic.twitter.com/F2xJ2ozGNS
