I don’t watch NASCAR, because driving 500 miles in a circle — barring a 10-car pileup — gets pretty boring after the first couple of laps. To be fair, I feel the same way about basketball, which doesn’t get exciting until the last three minutes of the fourth quarter.
That’s probably why I never heard of Kyle Larson, who became famous this week for detonating the N-bomb. You can get away with that kind of dumbassery in MMA, because nobody in mainstream culture cares about us, but on the grand stage?
Not so much.
Larson was hit pretty hard after his online blunder, which came during the organization’s iRacing series. But despite his punishment and subsequent apology, New York Mets pitcher Marcus Stroman isn’t ready to let him off the hook just yet, which is why he’s asking UFC to do him a solid.
“He should never be allowed to race again in Nascar,” Stroman wrote on Twitter. “Said that derogatory word so nonchalantly. Your apology doesn’t matter. Post-career … I’ll fight this man in a UFC event for charity. He needs his ass beat. Would love to hear him say that word in the Octagon!”
Unfortunately for Stroman, the Octagon is a place for professional fighters to engage in mixed martial arts (MMA) competition, not a makeshift Thunderdome for a couple of dudes with a score to settle. That said, I wouldn’t be opposed to the bout happening on “Fight Island.”
Let’s face it, the Mets need all the wins they can get.
