Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) somethingweight, Nate Diaz, is not going to accept each and every fight the promotion throws his way, because A) he doesn’t wear a cowboy hat and B) he doesn’t suck dick.
Hey, those are his words, not mine.
That’s probably why Diaz (19-11) — sans silly-ass suit — turned down a fight against top-ranked contender Khabib Nurmagomedov, as well as a lightweight showdown against current interim titleholder Tony Ferguson.
It should be noted that “Eagle” and “El Cucuy” are fighting for the lightweight title at UFC 223 next month in Brooklyn, New York.
One fight he did accept was against former featherweight and current lightweight champion Conor McGregor, which he won at UFC 196, before coming up short on the judges’ scorecards in their UFC 202 rematch.
Both of which stand as two of the biggest pay-per-view (PPV) events of all time, leading tattooed UFC analyst Jon Anik to anoint the now-wealthy Diaz a legitimate box office draw, and perhaps even top five in the promotion.
Even without his “Notorious” rival.
“If you’re asking me, I think he’s a top five pay-per-view draw in the company right now,” Anik told MMA Junkie. “I think Daniel Cormier is in that mix because he’s been buoyed by the two Jon Jones fights. But I think Nate Diaz can carry a pay-per-view without Conor McGregor. Will he be afforded that opportunity? I don’t know.”
UFC President Dana White clearly disagrees.
In fact, White has long railed against Diaz for being difficult tp pin down, telling the combat sports media as far back as 2014 that needles stand still when the Stockton slugger takes center stage.
Must be his “dumb ass” manager.
