UFC lightweight Nate Diaz (16-9) has been suspended by the promotion following a controversial Tweet on Thursday night.
Diaz Tweeted a negative comment about fighter Bryan Caraway who was awarded the UFC 159 “Submission of the Night” bonus following Pat Healy’s suspension for a positive marijuana test. Healy had earned the “SOTN” and the “FOTN” bonuses totaling $130,000.
The Tweet, which has since been deleted, referred to Caraway as “the biggest Fag in the world.”
– I feel bad for pat Healy that they took a innocent mans money and I think the guy who took the money is the biggest Fag in the world..
UFC president Dana White was quick to react confirming with MMAjunkie.com writer John Morgan (@MMAjunkiejohn) that Diaz would “be either fined and suspended or cut for that tweet.”
Officials with the promotion followed that up by releasing an official statement to MMAjunkie.com.
“We are very disappointed by Nate Diaz’s comments, which are in no way reflective of our organization. Nate is currently suspended pending internal investigation and we will provide further comment once the matter has been decided.”
The website also spoke to Diaz’ manager Mike Kogan about the suspension.
Basically, Kogan has come out defending his fighter saying that Diaz used the term to refer to Caraway’s negative comments concerning Healy’s use of marijuana as a “bitch” move. Read all of Kogan’s comments by hitting the link above to MMAjunkie.com.
