Added to this October’s upcoming UFC on FX 5 television event by the Ultimate Fighting Championship was a welterweight fight between Josh ‘The Dentist’ Neer (33-11-1) vs. Justin ‘Fast Eddy’ Edwards (7-2), and a lightweight match featuring BJJ black belt Carlo ‘Neo’ Prater (30-11-1) vs. wrestler Marcus ‘The Prospect’ LeVesseur (21-6).
These two matches were announced along with a few more previously identified bouts for the Minneapolis card at UFC.com.
At welterweight, TUF 13′s Justin “Fast Eddy” Edwards and seasoned veteran Josh “The Dentist” Neer will meet in a submission specialist vs. TKO artist match-up.
Fans of ground wars — and the crazy brawls that sometimes take place when two grappling specialists compete — can look forward to the lightweight bout between BJJ black belt Carlo “Neo” Prater and powerful wrestler Marcus “The Prospect” LeVesseur.
UFC on FX: Browne vs. Silva is expected to take place October 5 at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The event has heavyweights Travis Browne taking on Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva in the main event.
Edwards is coming off a decision loss to John Maguire last November at UFC 138, putting his Octagon record at 1-2. The former TUF 13 alumn had been scheduled to take on Mike Stumpf at UFC 143, but both men were eventually forced off with injuries. ‘Fast Eddie’ had his last win at UFN 25 in New Orleans where he won a decision over Jorge Lopez.
Neer had a six fight win streak stopped ending a successful run which saw him go 2-1 in his fourth run with the UFC. ‘The Dentist’ was knocked out cold by Mike Pyle this past June at UFC on FX 3 in his last fight, and choked out Duane Ludwig in January at the UFC on FX 1 event in Tennessee.
Despite a long career in mma with over forty professional fights, Prater managed to get his foot into the door with the UFC after replacing Siyar Bahadurzada at UFC 142. Prater fought Erick Silva in a welterweight bout at UFC 142, winning that match as Silva was disqualified for illegal punches to the back of the head. ‘Neo’ would then go on to face TJ Grant at UFC on FUEL TV 3 in May in his return to lightweight, and would lose that match by decision.
LeVesseur also found his way into the UFC stepping in as a replacement, which he did last May replacing Aaron Riley at UFC on FUEL TV 3. The wrestler would find himself on the wrong side of a Cody McKenzie guillotine choke, tapping out at 3:05 of the first round. The loss ended LeVesseur’s three fight win streak, puttinghis back against the wall should he face a second straight defeat.
