We’ve always contended that MMA will really break into the mainstream when it’s legalized in New York and the East Coast media covers a major card at Madison Square Garden.

Looks like that may happen sooner rather than later.

The New York Daily News is reporting that blind Governor David Paterson is set to propose MMA legalization to be one of many ways for the state to resolve its $9 billion dollar budget deficit without having to raise taxes or borrow money.

Reports NYDailyNews.com:

Gov. Paterson is set to propose legalizing ultimate fighting and its controversial steel-cage matches to help wrestle the state’s fiscal woes.

Madison Square Garden and upstate venues have supported the idea in hopes of hosting its events. An Ultimate Fighting Championship league match scheduled for Newark in March sold out last week.
