A welterweight bout between Nick ‘The Jersey Devil’ Catone (9-4) and James Head (9-3) has been pulled from tonight’s upcoming UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen event.
Catone was sent to the hospital Friday night following the official weigh-ins for dehydration and the decision was made to cancel the match.
Here is the official announcement which was posted at UFC.com earlier today.
– Following a trip to the hospital for dehydration, Nick Catone has been scratched from his UFC 159 bout with James Head, scheduled for tonight at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The event will proceed as scheduled with 11 bouts.
UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen will continue with eleven bouts on the card instead of twelve and is scheduled to take place tonight (April 27) at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Catone is 0-2 in his last couple of appearances having dropped to welterweight in his last bout. ‘The Jersey Devil’ was choked out last December by T.J. Waldburger at the TUF 16 Finale and suffered a third round TKO loss to Chris Camozzi in June at UFC on FX 4.
Head is 2-1 in his last three, losing his last fight which took place at the same TUF 16 Finale that Catone appeared on last December. Head suffered a first round TKO loss to Mike Pyle. Prior to that Head had wins over Brian Ebersole and Papy Abedi.
